Bulls pick Brand for #1 pick

Click here to see David Stern announcing who the #1 pick was

Q: Do you think there will be a lot of pressure on you now as the first pick? Brand: It's a lot of pressure and playing for the Bulls with the heritage and the championships there is again a lot of pressure. I am looking forward to meeting that challenge.

Q: Are you happy that you were the first pick? Brand: I just wanted to be in the best situation possible and I feel like the Bulls is a great situation for me so I am very happy that I was the No. 1 pick tonight.

Q: What do you think about coming to the Bulls following the Michael Jordan era? Brand: That's going to be a super challenge but I think we're going to have to do it a little different than the championship teams. Of course the Bulls have a lot of great role players but I think we're all going to have to take more of a role player role. I don't know what my role is going to be yet but I am ready to get out there and find out.

Q: You seemed to have a large contingent of fans in the audience? Brand: There are some Duke fans, of course this is an ACC area and a lot of guys from New York came to support me also.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Did the Bulls give you any indication as to who you will be playing with? Brand: Not at all. I haven't spoken to the Bulls from about three weeks ago. I had no indication that I was going to go No. 1 and I have no indication as to what they're going to do.

Q: [Question not heard] Brand: I'm just going to try to be the best that I can be and work on strength, work on 15-20 foot jumpers. I'm just going to work on everything and try to be the best that I can be.

Q: What was your first thought when you heard your name called? Brand: I couldn't believe it. I just had to sit there for a minute and make sure. If you noticed I didn't give anybody any hugs or anything. I might have felt I was still dreaming or something. I just sat there to make sure it was true and it was. Then I hugged my mother and my brother and everyone else and then went up to the podium.

Q: You are close to your mother, will she be close to you during your career? Brand: Most likely she'll around and the games she can't see she can see on satellite like the away games and things like that. She'll definitely be close to me.

Q: Was there a lot of anticipation without knowing who would go first? Brand: It was a great anticipation. I didn't know who would go one. Lamar Odom, Steve Francis, Wally Szczerbiak, they're all great players so I didn't know exactly where I would fit in in this draft. To go No. 1 is a special time and special event.

Tired of the Bulls losing? Well don't worry anymore because my boy, Brent Barry is of the injured list and is ready to whoop some butt! He's deffinatly one of the best, and youngest guys on the team, and is very underated. Watch out now, hes back, and the other 27 NBA teams better be ready for him!

Ron Harper is averaging double-figures in scoring this season.

1998-99 NOTES Posted a game-high 19 points, a career-high 11 rebounds and 3 assists in a 90-88 overtime win over the Toronto Raptors on 2/28 Registered team-highs of 19 points (5-7 3FG)and 5 steals, and grabbed 4 rebounds, against the New York Knicks on 2/21 Recorded a game-high 22 points (4-6 3FG), 6 assists and 5 rebounds against the Washington Wizards on 2/19 Made his Bulls debut, totaling 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, against the Utah Jazz on 2/5

Elon's Notes: I think Brent is an unbalieveable player, and is the best player on the Chicago Bulls fanchise right now. They need to use him a lot if they want to get some major points. He is my favorite player in the NBA right now, and is very fun to watch.

Ha Ha, Bulls have the last laugh with the final second win against the Bucks!!

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Mark Bryant drained a jumper with 2.3 seconds remaining as the Chicago Bulls snapped a seven-game losing streak and prevented the Milwaukee Bucks from moving up in the Eastern Conference standings with a 79-77 victory. Bryant received a pass from Randy Brown at the foul line, dribbled once to the right and pulled up and drained a 10-footer to put the Bulls in front. Following a pair of timeouts, the Bucks had one last chance to win. Vinny Del Negro found a wide-open Glenn Robinson with an in-bounds pass along the left wing. But Robinson's 14-footer bounced off the rim as time expired. "I thought it was a pretty good shot," Robinson said. "I would like to have that shot 10 times. I probably make it nine out of 10. The problem is that you can't make them all." The Bucks suffered their second straight loss in the final seconds. On Friday, Milwaukee lost to the Charlotte Hornets when David Wesley hit a pair of free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining. Ray Allen scored 19 points and Robinson added 17 for Milwaukee, which lost for the fourth time in six games and missed a chance to move into fifth place in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks remained half-game behind the Pistons, who lost earlier in the day. "I'm not disappointed in my team, I'm disappointed in the result," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "I thought the team played hard. It's tough to win on the road shooting 35 percent. We're a team that is still learning and we still have to learn how to win tough games." Toni Kukoc contributed 22 points and Randy Brown collected 16 points and 10 assists for Chicago, which stopped seven-game losing streak for the second time this season. The Bulls have not lost eight straight games since November 25-December 10, 1983. "That was a real good win for us," Chicago coach Tim Floyd said. "We played with confidence. I think it had something to do with how well how well we played Milwaukee the first three times. I'm proud of the team with the way they held on and won the ballgame at the end." The Bulls opened the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead and still held a 75-68 advantage with 5:07 to play after Brown sank a pair of free throws. Brown was 5-of-13 from the field and made all six foul shots. But Allen scored five points and Robinson four in a 9-0 surge that put the Bucks ahead, 77-75, with two minutes to go. A dunk by Dickey Simpkins with 69 seconds to go pulled the Bulls into a tie. Despite leading the Bulls in scoring, Kukoc went scoreless in a fourth quarter in which Chicago shot 35 percent (6-of-17). Kukoc went 8-of-15 from the floor. An 11-footer by Robinson, who connected on just 5-of-17 shots, gave the Bucks a 54-51 lead with 4:51 left in the third quarter. Consecutive baskets by rookie Corey Benjamin and a 3-pointer by Kukoc, triggered a 13-3 surge that gave the Bulls a 64-57 lead into the final period. Benjamin had a season-high 12 points. "I wanted to go out and just play my game," Benjamin said. "I thought I played well on both offense and defense. This game helps my confidence. I'm learning a lot about professional basketball." Chicago shot 42 percent (30-of-72) while holding the Bucks to only 38 percent (27-of-71) from the floor. The Bucks came in as the top 3-point shooting team in the league but finished just 1-of-11 from beyond the arc.
