Lt.Jonathen used the Coat of Arms of the famous Calvinist Caption Francois De La Noue, surnamed "Bras de Fer" or "Iron Armed", and the Coat of Arms of his (Bras de fer's) father, Lord Jean Francois de la Noue, and Lord Odet de la Noue, who married Marie de Lannoy, Dau. of Nicolas de Lannoy, son of Hugues de Lannoy, son of Hugues-Nicolas de Lannoy, son of Pierre de Lannoy, son of Jean de Lannoy, son of Jean "Perchoval" de Lannoy son of Hugues de Franchimont Count de Lannoy, son of Jean Wallerand Count de Franchimont, son of Count Hellin de Franchimont.....etc.etc.
Lt. Jonathen did not use the Arms of the family of de Lannoy-DeLano, or the arms of Barbacon, as used by Gysbert (Gilbert) and his father Lord Jean de Lannoy or Gysberts mother Jeanne de Ligne de Barboncon as stated in: "The Genealogy History and Alliances of the American House of Delano 1621 to 1899. with the history and heraldry of the maison de Franchimont and de Lannoy to DeLano, 1096 to 1621." (ie:"GHAAHD")
There is a portrait of Francois de la Noue " Bras-de-Fer" engraved in 1591, at the "bibliotheque de national" with the "legende" <<Francoys de Lannoy>>. When asked why his name is not spelled correctly, the reply is:
" Traduttori, traditori!!" Source: "Precis Genealogique de la Maison DE LA NOUE, par, Le Vicomte Oscar de Poli. President du Conseil Heraldique de France." " Decus avorum, honos patris." " Conseil Heraldique De France" 21, Avenue, Carnot, 21. Paris, 1886. pp.53-62 & 102-151.
After MUCH time and research I have come to the conclusion that Philippe de la Noye (or) Noue, is a younger son of Lord Odet de la Noue from his wife Marie de Lannoy. The dates match, the Coats of Arms match, and it is very clear from the marriage of Marie de Lannoy to Odet de la Noue that the two families were very close. Combine this with the religion and all the other factors, and research into the parish records from the area of Poitou and Brittany, in France, as well as the records from the Wallon area of the Netherlands, and parish records from England, and then and only then will we prove or disprove this conclusion.
Jonathan is said to have arrived from Brittany, France via England, landing and then setting up house in Connecticut. (CGA) Crozier's General Armory: This Armory states on page Viii : " The descriptions of the arms, and the data, carefully collated and verified, have been inserted ONLY when actual examination of the necessary records has shown the family to be entitled to the distinction. ".Bolton's American Armory: " Arms brought over by Jonathan DeLano, to Tolland Connecticut in 1722." Vermonts American Armory, pp. 47 & 163," same statement. "Matthews American Armoury and Blue Book,1907: "Philippe De La Noye, from Leydon, Holland, to Plymouth Mass. His Grandson Jonathan de Lano settled at Tolland, Conn., 1722, same arms.
