DAVID BOWIE

I would put roses around the door, sit in The Garden...

DAVID BOWIE a man of many names and talents, this legendary superhuman artist extraordinar, is my all time favorite Rock Star. Recording as far back as 1963, with over 30 studio albums, he has influenced the course of rock, for almost 40 years. Famous for his ability to completely remake himself over and over again , Bowie has had many different looks, and musical styles. From grass roots folk, to hard core industrial, you're always going to get one hell of a show from this well seasoned performer.

In 1987, Bowie came out with the album, NEVER LET ME DOWN. This was my very first Bowie album. It was a tape actually, played so much it was worn in spots. Here are afew bits and pieces of that (for me) life changing album.

DAY IN DAY OUT

She's got a ticket to nowhere
she's gonna take a train ride.
Nobody knows her,or knows her name
she's one angry gal.
Suddenly there's angels everywhere
Angels in a ton of sound.
And there shootin' her down
Shootin' her with video-drugs-bullets and promises.

ZEROES

You've arrived in the land of a thousand different names.
Where the fabulous sons crashed there planes in flames.
Now tomarrow is back claiming redemption is on your heels.
And a toothless past is asking you how it feels.
And me, my little red Corvette has driven by.
My fair weather heart has fallen in.
My rainy day girl is feeling down,
and she tells me that the world is spinning round.
I say the dream was all for you,
You're nobody else.
Tonight the Zeroes were singing for you.

This song needs an intro, in fact the lyrics to follow, were a kind of intro for the song. The show for the NEVER LET ME DOWN album was called, THE GLASS SPIDER TOUR. The stage was set with a 50 FOOT spider, complete with flashing lights, and steal cable webbing that would lower the super rocker down to the stage, to start the show. When it was time for this song the stage would go strangely quiet. The lighting would become surreal. Soft slow orchestra music would back his voice. From a microphone within the great spider, he would recite this part of the song, like a poem. Then the music would churn in, and the song proper would begin.

GLASS SPIDER

Up untill one century ago there lived, in the Zi Duang provance of an eastern country,
a glass-like spider.
Having devoured it's prey, it would drape the skeletons over it's web. In weeks, creating a macabre Shrine of remains.
It's web was also unique in that it had many layers, like floors on a building.
At the top of this palace-like place, assembled with almost apparent care, were tiny shining objects.
Glass, beads, dew-drops. One could almost call it an alter.
When the breeze blew though this construction, it produced sounds of wailing, crying.
Tiny wails, tiny cries.
The baby spiders would get scared and search franticlly for there mother.
But the Glass Spider would have long gone, having known that the babies would survive somehow, on there own.........
.......Oh, The Glass Spider had blue eyes, almost like a human's. They shed tears at the wintered turn of the centuries.
