Rowan woke up from a dream in which a Ghost became flesh. The Ghost was tall and formidable, dark-haired with heavy eyebrows and looking wrathful as fiery hell. Despite all of this, Rowan was struck most by the strange manner of the Ghost. The Ghost acted and said things just like Rowan would’ve in the same situation. When the Ghost told Rowan, “don’t get any big ideas,” Rowan was unable to contain his laughter. The Ghost leaned towards him menacingly as Rowan tried to explain his mirth. “It’s just, that sounds exactly like something I would say!” At this point, the Ghost’s fury boiled over, and the Ghost tackled Rowan, striking his face repeatedly as they rolled down the grassy hill. Somewhere in Rowan’s mind, Rowan was also the Ghost, beating the shit out of himself. Then the Ghost got up, becoming again in Rowan’s mind fully independent of Rowan. The Ghost walked back up the hill and calmly disappeared with a butterfly in hand, head, and heart. Rowan woke up from that dream feeling physically battered and empty.
He turned over and fell back to sleep.
