“O, that this too, too solid flesh would melt,
Thaw and dissolve itself into a dew,”
Or that I may escape this tortured vessel,
Fly away, on wings of bird or butterfly, beyond,
The bounds of human understanding, of earthly limits,
Freed.
Twin orbs, creeping in the shadow of sleep,
nocturnal cat of weariness and emptiness that fills us,
Disappointed, Let Down, wing twitch and tears tear,
Vertigo of narcolepsy slipping, stealing, cat of weariness,
Crawls onto my chest, warm and purrs,
Sleep.
Gentle and warm, this sleep my home at last,
for a while secure, steady pulse numbing senses overwrought,
By day past, consciousness melting, dissolve into dew.
Escape, and body at peace, soul beyond, flutter,
Higher now, wings unbroken, untwitching,
Soar.
