Interview with Juan of Masochism

Well, this is the first interview I did after I heard the band. It's nice to see some hispanics in this genre, although there may be more but I don't know, I've only heard of this stuff early this year. Also, I'm from Idaho so you know how it is.

So, how are you?
I'm fine, & you?
I'm ok, thanks. Who founded Masochism?
Masochism is founded by Kean Koite. He's the bassist, vocalist. I'd say around '92.
When did you join the band?
I joined in '93 as a second guitarist , but in '94, we went through some changes which left us as a 3 piece which has been that way since then.
What are your current favorite bands?
Currently (& I speak for myself) i've been listening to Spinecast , Old Man's Child, Death of Millions, Diabolic, & Yngwie Malmsteen's concerto for electric guitar . all killer stuff!!
I'm listening to Spinecast right now!
Yeah they are a good band.

Who would you rather do; Cindy Margolis or Pamela Lee?
Well, I don't know who Cindy Margolis is & Pamela, well, yea i guess her. She'd be a good boost for my band *laughs*
Cindy Margolis is the most downloaded woman on the web.
Ah, I'm new to online shit , she hasnt come across my way , but, I'm sure we're bound to cross paths one day..
Was there any type of music groups that you are embarrased to have ever liked?
Well, no not really I stand my ground on the non metal stuff i listen to, like Al DiMeola and Jimi Hendrix,& I have a strong liking to Spanish groups of the romantic music genre, mainly for the use of the guitar in thier music. but yea maybe Huey Lewis I used to listen to the "back to the future" soundtrack when i was younger
(ed- snickering to herself j/k - LadyEstrella)

Jimi Hendrix is cool. Did you ever like Selena?
Actually yeah I did, some of the songs are very catchy, & living in a Mexican atmosphere in Texas you cant help but listen to it everywhere you go, too bad that had to happen to her beacuse she was breaking new grounds, as far as that type of music..
Definetly. She opened the Tejano music scene to women, and is one of the very few hispanics to make it up to that status (ed- VIVA LA RAZA MEXICANA! - LadyEstrella)
Yeah, I agree
What is the stupidest question you've ever been asked? (Interview, personal, etc.)
Well, most people try to be as cool w/ you as possible. I remember someone asking me if I knew Brujeria because I was Mexican lol. I dont, and they said oh cus you know they are from Mexico, I just laughed inside,

I hate that! they assume you know something because they're hispanic. I get that crap too.
Yeah, I was going to Florida a few years back & I was told not to stop in Vidor, TX which is supposedly the KKK capital or something & not to wear my Mexico soccer team cap if I did ..I think thats lame..
Who is the biggest wigger on this planet?
Oh that's easy, that new artist m&m, (eminem) what I dont get is when a person tries to be like another type of color, i know this person who is Mexican, looks White, & talks like a Black man , he's completely fucked if you ask me..haha
Do you have a website yet?
We are workin on it, we need to get pics of us, etc.. & most likely be up soon.. I'll let you know ok?..
Perfect. I'll add it as soon as you get it up. Who do you consider your idol or influence in your music?
For me it would have to be Yngwie Malmsteen
Ahh...most people say Trey Azagthoth
Well he's good & he idolizes Eddie Van Halen
That's true! Idols have idols
Of this genre I'd say James Murphy & John Petrucci also
Is John Petrucci related to Vixen's Roxy Petrucci?
I dont know..they might be. Does she shred too?
She was in the girl-glam metal group Vixen
Ok, cool
Has there been any time you met someone that is just something you'd never forget?
Yeah, Yngwie Malmsteen, I met him in florida, he's a cool guy, everyone says he's an asshole, but i have a different opinion of him defenitely a highlight in my life..
Ok, that's about all the questions that could fit in my tiny little head *ha*. Is there anything you would like to say?
Well Yeah, First & foremost thanks Sonija for this cool interview, Masochism has a new drummer his name is Marz Sanchez, & We will have merchandise soon, as well as a new demo or possible cd, depending on what happens , we have gotten good response w/ our demo!! so we'll see...stay brutal & everyone get in touch w/ us!! MASOKZMO99@aol.com
Ok! Well, thanks for letting me interview you, even though my site is really just something run by a 16 year old with a makeshift comp in the middle of nowhere, ID *laughs*
Well, every bit helps!! Thank you!!
