Will our love last forever
beyond the open grave
And shall we meet in Heaven
Locked in love's eternal purity
Or must our love
like poppies fade and die
To begin to grow for someone else
as every spring's sunshine warms the seed
Might our love be true and clean
as together we must flow
to give and take with laughter
at our little quarrels
And in old age will love be there
still burning as before
so very long ago
To light our grey hairs then
Oh tell me that our love is true
and let me nestle at your side
I'll guard you with my shield
and you'll uplift me with your eyes.
