It could never have really worked
Not true love between you and I
We were too different and worlds apart
For any press to join us
Our love never was true
Just an illusion soon to fade
And how thankful we should be
That our delusion did not flower
Friends we still are
And trust each other too
Our lives are richer now
For having stood on the brink of love
And in each other's presence
We can grow in peace
Laughing sometimes at ourselves
When we thought we were in love
