For Alison

The old men sleep
Who once were wise
And wrote their magic
in the skies

Their fires grow cold and embers lie
beyond the shadows of the stars
And I would take a spark of coal
And hold it close to warm your soul

If ancient magic brings you light
And breaks the darkness of the night
I'll fly away, your hand in mine
We'll taste the music at the end of time

And if we dance on skies of space
our earthly bodies light as lace
we'll wear time's magic in our eyes
and paint the colour of the skies

Love may come to give us grace
And wondrous solace in our first embrace
I will take the colours there
And wind them softly in your hair
