A Poem From When I Was First In Love

Sonnet
Song of Sabbath

Why do the vapours of the dawn
hang still and silent on this Sabbath morn

What bright angel God's delight
can fly to calm my earthbound sight

And what great love above can shine
when earthly love is to me devine

What great love above can be
greater than my love for thee

I taste the dew upon your breast
and heaven's manna is but a jest
