An old man sits before an empty grate
Staring at memories jumbling past in his mind
A child stifles in an angry adult row
And longs for a touch of love
The lonely look at the gates of hell
And yearn for company
A man in jail strives to see
The sky and fails
Yet Christ is risen today
The inmates of an old folks home
Await the visitor that never comes
No padre tends their souls
And in vegetable immobility they stare
At the illuminated screen
Unseeing the resurrected Christ remembered
Far away
No wafers and no wine in sweet communion
passes their lips
But Christ is risen today
The lonely and the sad in darkness wander on
And death in evil ugly form
Creeps up upon a man
As along the road he skilfully drives
To eternity
A madman plants a bomb
And listens with a smile at bodies torn apart
For his confused idea of the brotherhood of man
And those that know no love at all
Turn their blind eyes away
From churches bells and triumphant music's call
Though Christ is risen today
The Royal Courts of Justice
The building is like a church
But where is God
A man goes by in chains
Perhaps God goes with him
I hope so
Justice they say is given out here
Who can know
People awaiting it wander about
Looking for their advocate
They live in hope
Men in white wool wigs and black crows gowns
Infest this place of pain
They care not one bit for any poor man
Except for the money he brings
