Ascending Star

The music in your eyes
And the love within your soul
Called to me over the long and wasted years
And I was drawn to try to taste the honey

And your tears.
The essence of your spirit
Along the lonely span of time
Was distilled in one small prayer
Of the kindness of your eyes on mine.

Our time was short
Yet wider than the sea.
I touched the face of God and laughed
With your kind eyes on me.

My eyes shall close
Sing me no song in later years regret.
My time is over and my dream is gone
Save for the echo of your song.

My song is over, yet
Blessed I will be
If at another you can look
As once you looked at me.
