The City of Rouen

Rouen is a very beautiful, old city and can be located a few hours west of Paris. 40 or more churches are sprinkled all over the town, but only a handful of them are still used for services. This is also the place where Joan of Arc was tried and burned at the stake, as you will see below. Another interesting thing is that many of the buildings here were built hundreds of years ago and were structurally built with wooden planks within the walls itself for stability (also seen below). Many of the streets are very narrow - sometimes only one person can pass through them at once. Space was very limited years ago, so they built these buildings very close to one another to use up as much space as they were allowed.

The buildings of Rouen with the wooden planks that I mentioned.

An enclosed courtyard and building which dates back to the Bubonic Plague (or Black Death).

Bones, skulls, shovels, coffins, etc. carved into the wood denoting death.

A memorial built in memory of Joan of Arc, located a couple of meters away from where she was burned.

Joan of Arc was burned here at the spot where the sign in the middle resides.

Here's Patty with a cathedral in the background - on a night tour of the city.
