History of Brunkeflo
1820 there was a cute little baby born in Stockholm/Sweden. It was called the name Florian Brunkesson.

Since he was a little child he was dreaming about going to America, the country with all this great possibilities, and become a farmer. He told his cousin Karl about it and kind of "infected" him with this wish.

After Florian got married to a woman named Marie in 1844 he decided to take a ship to USA, so his un-born children would get all the great possibilities he expected to find in USA. His cousin Karl also wanted to come with Florian and so he took his wife Anna and his two children and bought himself a ticket to America.

On the way by ship Karls little daughter Emma was getting very sick. She was having high fever and the whole family was scared about seeing little Emma not having help by any doctor. It happened that, like through a wonder, Emmas fever went down when Florian saw the statue of liberty appearing in the harbor of New York.

They stayed in New York until Emma was totally healthy again, than they started their journex to the "wild west". Their long journey wasn´t comfortable at all: Hunger, Thirst, heat and cold, rain, sun and storm and attacks by bandits that where passing their way. Fortunetly they had all their money and things of worth put tight under their wagons, so no one found it and was able to steal it.

Than after a long, long journey they finally found a peice of land to settle down in Idaho. It was a very lonely area. the first thing they did was plating an Oak tree, which is standing there until today.

"How should I call this place" asked Florian his wife Marie. She thought for a little while and answered "Call it Brunke, Flo." So it was kind of misunderstanding that created the name "Brunkeflo".

Before the winter was able to come they started to build huts for their families. The very first year was the hardest. But they all got through, like through a wonder. Spring was coming and Florians wife gave birth to their first child (there followed 8 more ones in the coming years).

Meanwhile his cousin Karl made the decision he didn´t want to be a farmer, when he finally found a piece of cat-gold. Everyone told him it wouldn´t be real gold, but Karl was so obsessed he though they just tell him cause they want the gold for themselves. He made a mine and started to work in it day by day. From that time on in every generation of young men there was always any guy wanting to make big money and starting to work on in the mine. Karls wife Anna and the children helped Florian on the farm so they was getting food and money for their work.

Time went by and Karls son married Florians oldest daughter and since it was very rare that someone else was coming to town (and even stayed there for a longer while) things used to stay "in the family" when it came to marriage and children and that´s the way until today. In Brunkeflo people use to make an celebration once a year to honor Florian Brunkesson, which is the direct anchestor of almost all of them.
