The project-objective was to establish a national center for Computer
Aided Design in India. The CAD Project, as it is called, has been fully
established with installation of CAD hardware and software. The activities
of the CAD Project are to conduct continuing education programmes, to develop
CAD software for Indian engineering industry, and to offer consultancy
services to industry in the area of CAD. CAD-P has been recognized as a
premiere laboratory for CAD in India. It has already attracted considerable
attention. Many engineers, designers, educationists and international experts
had visited this facility. Professors Leroy Emkin (Georgia Tech), Gary
Kinzel (Ohio State), Tony Ingraffea (Cornell), Don Riley (Minnesota) and
John Abel (Cornell) visited CAD-P and served as Technical Consultants on
behalf of UNDP. Dr. Dhande, as the Coordinator, directed a team of eight
Research Engineers and six staff members.
