THE EPCOT PAGE!

Music and pictures loading, please be patient!
"But the most exciting and by far the most important part of our Florida Project...in fact, the heart of everything we'll be doing in Disney World...will be our Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow! We call it EPCOT." -Walt Disney These photos were taken on my November 1999 trip. This is a page dedicated to the greatest theme park in the world, EPCOT in Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, USA!

The idea for Epcot came from Walt Disney. Inspired by the 1965 World's Fair, he decided to create a world where people would come from all over the world and share their cultures and innovations, while preparing for the future. Unfortuately, he did not see his Epcot dream realized. Epcot opened in 1982, almost 20 years after his death. The park's dedication reads:
"To all who come to this place of joy, hope and friendship, welcome." "Epcot Center is inspired by Walt Disney's creative genius. Here, human achievements are celebrated through imagination, the wonders of enterprise, and concepts of a future that promises new and exciting benefits for all." "May Epcot Center entertain, inform and inspire. And, above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere."' -E. Cardon Walker Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Walt Disney Productions Oct. 24, 1982

Epcot is the most educational of the 4 major Disney World parks. It has Future World which includes The Land an experimental greenhouse, Journey Into Your Imagination (a fun look at using your head), Universe of Energy, The Living Seas, and a lot more. The most famous attraction is Spaceship Earth (also known as "that giant golf ball-looking object!") It has a great ride inside by ATT about communication through the ages narrated by actor Jeremy Irons.
Fast Fact: The term "Spaceship Earth" comes from R. Buckminster Fuller's "An Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth".
The other major part of Epcot is the World Showcase. This is a re-creation of various nations, with awesome authenticity. You will see the sights, hear the music, taste the foods and buy wares from the people who are actually natives of these various lands including: China Germany Italy Morocco Canada and America It is traveling the world without the hassle of currency exchange or passports!
At night, Epcot puts on a fireworks show not to be missed. For the millennium, there is IllumiNations, featuring "Reflections of Earth". The title has a double meaning in that it features a globe on the water that shows images of the world, and it is a look back at the history of this planet. It is done to a wonderful musical score, lasers and fireworks. Each change in the music symbolizes a change in the planet from firey beginnings to the celebration of a new millennium. It is very profound. At the end of the fireworks, a song called "We Go On" is played. Its lyrics read of hope for the future.

"With the stillness of the night
there comes a time to understand
to reach out and touch tomorrow
take the future in our hand
We can see a new horizon
built on all that we have done
and our dreams begin another
thousand circles 'round the sun ...."
We Go On" : Music by Gavin Greenaway, Lyrics by Don Dorsey (c)1999 by Walt Disney Music Co.

There is also a "Tapestry of Nations" parade with giant artistic puppets and an equally superb musical score. This parade is a celebration of all of the cultures that make up mankind on Earth. I have included a link on this page to the CD that contains the music to "Reflections of Earth" and "Tapestry of Nations". You are now listening the music from "Tapestry of Nations!" My description does not do Epcot justice. You have to experience the awe for yourself! It has an atmosphere that could only be understood in person. If you want to go, here are some links to help. Have a great time! Please say "hi" and share your trip stories!
