Hello and welcome to my humble Lost in Space
TV series page. This page is dedicated to perhaps one of
the greatest Sci-Fi TV shows ever made. Sure it was corny
and the effects looked as if they were made out of
cardboard and papier mache, ( well actually they were! ) |
The story was based upon the idea of a futuristic family (
above ) and their mission to reach a distant star. It derived
quite a lot of its message from the Swiss family story, even
their name is called Robinson, and the old pioneering spirit of
19th century America.
The family consisted of an intrepid if not particularly bright
professor,
John Robinson,
and his dutiful matriarchal counterpart, Maureen. Between them
they had three children, the seductive Judy, the intelligent Will
and caring Penny. They also semi-adopted the pilot of their ship,
the Jupiter 2, Major Don West and the Robot, played by Bob May.
They also played reluctant host to perhaps the real star of the
show, the dastardly Dr. Zachary Smith. (right )
Smith was the constant bane to the ploys and intrepidations
made by the Robinson's and co. His character developed from being
the sly, narrow traitor he portrayed in the first episode into a
bumbling if not manipulating coward with satirical comic
undertones.
The relationship between Will, the Robot and Smith were
perhaps the strongest with the rest of the class being almost
props to their interactions. The robot itself was based upon the
better known 'Robbie' the robot from the 1956 film 'Forbidden Planet'. In fact, Robbie did make a
guest appearance in one of the LIS episodes.
 |
Throughout the series, the family et al, experiences
many dangers and tribulations, ranging from alien
invasion to bizarre weather patterns. The show lasted
three years from 1965 to 1968 and featured a mammoth 83
episodes. Created by Irwin Allen who also made Voyage to
the Bottom of the Sea, Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants
it featured many well known American TV celebrities
appeared in the show including the guy out of the Phil
Silvers show. |

Of course, most people will know the name Lost in
Space from the recent sci-fi movie featuring Friends star Matt Le Blanc who
played the dashing Major Don West. To read more about my

Billy Mumy himself is no stranger to sci-fi as he is
no other that Lennier from Babylon 5 and starred in an episode of
the hit TV series, the Twilight Zone |
