British Infantry, World War I

Great Britain contributed a large number of troops to a continental war for the first time since the Crimean.  Large numbers of volunteers were organized into "pals" battalions.  When these units were sacrificed at the Somme in 1916, entire communities received the shocking news of the tremendous losses.  Great Britain was bled white by the Great War.

Four sets have been released to cover British troops during this period:  Airfix British Infantry, Airfix Royal Horse Artillery, Emhar British Infantry, and Emhar British Artillery.

The Airfix set of British Infantry is equipped with the early-war soft cap.  The scultping is good, although there is not quite enough raised detail to please me.

Figures and gun from Emhar WWI British Artillery.  The set includes two guns and 24 figures (four each of the six poses)

The Emhar sets depict British Infantry in steel helmets and are suitable for battles of 1915-8.  The figures are historically accurate and well sculpted.  They paint up very well.  The 18 pdr gun is well designed and easily assembled.
