What it Means to Be a Christian

Many people now days have no idea what this whole Christian thing is about. You might be saying "What in the world is she talking about? What exactly is a Christian anyway?" A lot of people have heard the word Christian many times, but don't know what it is all about.

Some people think they know what a Christian is, but are wrong. There are many people who say "Well, I am not Jewish, I'm not a Muslem, I'm not a Buddhist, I'm not an athiest, so I guess I am Christian." or "My parents are Christians, so that means that I am, too." But being a true Christian is more than just believing in God and Jesus. Many people think that, if you believe in God and Jesus, that means you are a Christian. Yes, believing is an important part of Christianity. In fact, it is the first step you need to take to be saved. However, you can't stop there. Sadly, many people do stop there. There are many people who go to church their whole lives, and think they are a Christian, but who have never taken the step that comes after believing.

A true Christian is someone who not only believes, but who has accepted Jesus Christ. In the Bible it says "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans chapter 10, verses 9 and 10) So you see, it is not enough to just believe, you need to accept as well.
