The Story of Josh and the Unknown Gym
"Du, du du du du," Ash sang, as he walked down an unknown road with Brock, Misty, and Pikachu.
"Are you sure you know where you’re going?" Misty asked.
"For the last time! I am going to the unknown gym!!!!!" yelled Ash.
"Ash, I’m beginning to believe this gym doesn’t exist. We have been walking for days, maybe the old man was lying," Brock said.
"Well... that old man was kinda weird!" Ash thought back.
"Weird!! He’s crazy! Remember when he stole my Horsea??" Misty yelled at Ash.
What? You don't remember? Well, here's what happened:
"Yeah! Look at that trainer over there! He has a Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur!!! I gotta get them!" exclaimed an old man, pointing at Ash who was fishing outside.
"Hey! He’s my friend, if you want his Pokémon, you gotta get through me first," Misty said as she entered the room. "Starmie! Go!"
"If this is how you want to handle it," the old man started, "Machamp! Go!"
"Starmie! Water gun!"
Misty and Brock watched as Machamp got blown away by Starmie’s water gun.
"Machamp! Get up! Mega punch! Now!"
Pow! Starmie flew across the room and smacked the wall.
"Oh, Starmie! Are you okay? You did your best! Come back into the Pokéball," Misty said.
"He he he! I got through you! Now can I steal that boy’s Pokémon?" The old man asked as he brought Machamp back into the Pokéball.
"No one’s stealing anyone’s Pokémon!" Brock said.
"Well, if I can’t have his Pokémon, want to talk for a while? No one ever visits me up here. And thanks girl, for the Pokémon battle, I haven’t felt this alive since I got into the Pokémon League!"
"Did you say Pokémon league? Ash himself is trying to get into the Pokémon League! He’s about half finished his Pokémon journey!" Brock said to the old man. "Ash! Get in here, you gotta hear this guy! He got into the Pokémon
League!"
Ash quickly entered the small house.
"Did you say the Pokémon League? What was it like? Whose badges did you win?" Ash asked.
"Chu," laughed Pikachu.
"I got in with only 5 badges! Not 8!" The old man bragged.
"Wow! How did you do that?" Ash and Misty asked in unison.
"I traveled and got 4 badges, then I fought and won in the Unknown Gym! The Pokémon League announced that since it was so hard to find the gym, then actually beat the leader, that the Unknown Gym badge counts for 4
badges!" the old man explained.
"Four badges?? All I have to do is get that badge..." Ash started.
"I don’t know Ash, he sounds kind of tough!" Brock thought.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu nodded in agreement.
"He is! Unless he changed his Pokémon, he uses Raichu, Gyarados, and Venusaur as his Pokémon!" The old man yelled. "With your Charmander, Pikachu, Squirtle, Pigeotto, and Bulbasaur, you’ll be lucky to take down his Venusaur!"
"Pi!" Pikachu looked worried
"To tell you the truth, I was lucky to beat them. His Pokémon were week from a battle against another Pokémon master before I fought him. He did better then anyone against him! I think his name was Oak," the old man said.
"Well anyways, I’m going! I can beat him!" Ash said. "Who's the gym leader there?"
"When I faught at the Unknown Gym, Michael was the gym leader. I think his son Josh took over though. Michael doesn't train anymore," the old man explained.
"Pika Pi!" Pikachu said.
"Well, take this map! It will help you find the Unknown Gym gym!"
"Bye old man!" Misty said.
"Bye! Thanks for the help mister!" Ash yelled.
"Well, we better get going," Brock said, as they left the house and started to walk down the road.
Misty put her hand in her pockets, and noticed her belt was missing a Pokéball.
Misty ran back to the house, and heard the old man talk. "It’s not a Bulbasaur, but I guess it will have to do."
"Sea! Sea! Horsea!" Horsea cried.
"Hey! What are you doing with my Horsea?" Misty demanded.
She ran up to Horsea and hugged him. Then she took the Pokéball.
"Horsea! Return!" Misty said. "Hrumph," she said to the old man, and left.
"Yeah, thats pretty much how I remember it, but my Starmie actually beat his Machamp," Misty said, flushing.
"We have to find that gym! I can beat Josh!" Ash exclaimed.
"Hey, whats that building there?" Brock asked.
Ash ran up to the building, opened the door and saw a Pokémon center.
"Hi! Nurse Joy? My Pokémon are a little tired from the trip, can you help them?" Ash asked.
"Yeah, and my Starmie took a beating, can you help him?" Misty asked.
"Yes. Sure. I can help you. Just put your Pokémon in their Pokéballs and let me give them some food," Nurse Joy said.
"My Pikachu won’t get into his Pokéball, he refuses." Ash said.
"Pika-chu!" Pikachu nodded.
"Well, give me your Pokéballs, and Pikachu, come this way!" Nurse Joy said, happily as she opened a door to let Pikachu in behind the counter.
"Pika-pi!"
As Ash and Misty waited for their Pokémon, they sat at a couch, and talked to Nurse Joy.
"No one comes here much. Isn’t it lonely here?" Misty asked.
"It isn’t that lonely, I have Chancey and Josh to keep me company. Why are you here? Are you here to battle Josh? He is really strong."
"Josh’s dad works for some big company now. He used to be a trainer. But he decided to retire a little while ago.
"His son, Josh picked his first Pokémon, Bulbasaur from
Professor Oak a little while ago. He trained hard and won many battles. Eventually, his Bulbasaur evolved into an Ivysaur, and then a Venusaur! For his 11th birthday, his dad got him a Magikarp and a Pikachu he had been training, and Magikarp soon evolved. After a long time, he decided to evolve his Pikachu with a Thunderstone. With Gyarados, Raichu, and his Venusaur, he beat the Elite Four and Michael decided that Josh was ready to take his place at the Unknown Gym."
"I hope I haven’t talked to much, I can do that sometimes. Oops, your Pokémon are ready. Let me get your Pokéballs." Nurse Joy said.
"Here they are, and there you go Pikachu!" Nurse Joy said as she returned their Pokémon.
"Thank you Nurse Joy!" Misty and Ash said together.
"Pikachu!"
"Wow! Isn’t she cute?" asked Brock.
"She’s the same as all the other Nurse Joy’s!" Misty said as she smacked Brock in the head.
"Owww!" Brock said as he rubbed him bump.
"Come on! We got to get to the gym!"
Ash and his friends started walking out the door when Nurse Joy called after them, "If you are looking for Josh’s gym, try the door back there!"
"He he... Oops," Ash said, blushing.
Ash walked to the back of the Pokémon Center, and tried to open the door. "Please verify yourself. Do you have at least 3 badges?"
Ash opened his jacket, and showed the machine on the door. Please place them on the green pad. Ash placed them on the pad, and waited. "These badges are official Pokémon League badges. Please
take your badges back, and proceed."
Ash opened the door, and Brock, Misty, and Ash went in. They saw a young boy sitting at a PC. It looked as if he was playing a game.
"Pika!"
"Are you here to challenge me, Ash Ketchum?" Josh asked.
"Yes! I am prepared to fight! I hear you only use three Pokémon, should I only use 3 as well?" Ash asked back.
"Use as many as you want, I will defeat you anyways. Come this way, to the stadium."
Ash walked after Josh, and Misty and Brock followed.
Josh stopped in a big room that looked like a soccer field, without the nets.
"Pika-pikachu!"
Josh walked to the farthest end, and Ash walked to the closest.
"We don’t know him, but we know he's a pretty strong trainer. But your Pokémon will learn a lot from this battle, and will become much stronger." Brock said to Ash.
"Are you ready? Raichu, I choose you!" Josh said, and he threw his Pokéball on the ground. It exploded and out came Raichu.
"Hmmm.... Electric types aren't very strong against plant types. Go Bulbasaur!" Ash said. Then he threw a Pokéball on the ground. It popped open and Bulbasaur came out.
"Bulba!"
"Chu!" Pikachu said in disappointment.
"Raichu! Thunder Shock!"
"Bulbasaur! Quick! Vine Whip!"
As Raichu started drawing his energy for shocking Bulbasaur, Bulbasaur grabbed him with his vines, and knocked him against the ground.
"Bulba! Bulba-saur!"
Bulbasaur continued his assault until on Raichu until it was really weak.
"Bulbasaur, return! Go Pidgeotto!" Ash yelled.
"Dive at him!"
Pidgeotto dived at Raichu and smacked him down. Raichu tried to get up once more. Raichu then fell to the ground unconsious.
"Pidgeotto, come back! Go Squirtle!" Ask demanded.
"Squirt, squirt!"
"Go Venusaur!" Josh said as he and Ash threw their Pokéballs.
"Venusaur! Razor Leaf!" Josh yelled. Leaves swirled around and came at Squirtle, knocking him over.
"Squir..." Squirtle started, and then he fell over. "Squirrrrrtle"
"Huh? Come back Squirtle! Go Pikachu!"
"PIKACHU!!!!" Pikachu said as he immediately used a thunder shock on Venusaur.
"He he. That didn’t affect him much! Venusaur! Body Slam!" Venusaur body slamed Pikachu, and Pikachu didn't get back up.
"Have you had enough?" Josh asked, laughing.
"I usually don’t give up, but I have no chance. If I did this bad against a Venusaur, there is no way I can defeat a Gyrados! I lost." Ash said quietly and sadly.
"You tried you best Ash, you must be good if you could take down his Raichu!" Brock said.
"Let’s get your Pokémon healed, and go back to getting easier badges." Misty said.
"Okay, I guess you’re right." Ash said.
"You did good. I was suprised you took down Raichu. Come back again when you are a Pokémon master!" Josh said, and smiled.
"I’ll do that! Good-bye!" Ash said, and waved.
"Bye!" Josh called after him.
Now Ash has a new friend, and another rival that he will fight, once he becomes a Pokémon master!
