INSTRUCTOR'S E-MAIL ADDRESS: drolivas@hotmail.com

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding Reaction Papers:

How long does my Reaction Paper have to be?

Two double spaced pages using 1 inch margins all the way around and 12 regular for the font size (Times New Roman is fine).

How do I submit my Reaction Paper?

Attach your Reaction Paper (file) to an e-mail and send it to drolivas@hotmail.com. Please virus check your file before you send it.

What file type should I use?

Use a Microsoft Word 2000, Word 2002, or Word 2003--a .doc file.

Just what is a Reaction Paper?

It is your reaction to an article that Dr. Olivas has you read. As you read through the content of the article you will be saying to yourself:

  • I agree
  • I disagree
  • I strongly agree
  • I strongly disagree
  • I agree with some things and I disagree with other things
  • I believe this is really important
  • I don't think this is important
  • I support this
  • I don't support this
  • (I think you get the idea.)
  • How will Dr. Olivas grade a Reaction Paper?

Dr. Olivas is looking for well thought out reactions--analysis with depth is important. For example, if you say I do not believe that something is important you need to support that with a brief explanation and perhaps an example. Likewise if you say you support something then you need to build a brief case by explaining why you support it and perhaps give some examples.

Do I need to have citings such as footnotes to support my reaction(s)?

No, you are the expert. However, depending on what you say you may feel comfortable providing a source, particularly if you find the need to use statistics. I prefer a hyperlink to a web based resource if possible.

How many points is each Reaction Paper worth?

    7.5 points.

Where do I find the articles that I am to read and react to?

In the "Hyperlinks for Week 5" and "Hyperlinks for Week 9" Dr. Olivas will provide hyperlinks to the sites where the Reaction Paper Articles can be located and read online.

When should they be in Dr. Olivas' electronic mail box?

Reaction Paper 1 is due in Dr. Olivas' electonic mail box by the end of the day Thursday, February 24, 2005.
Reaction Paper 2 is due in Dr. Olivas' electronic mail box by the end of the day Thursday, March 24, 2005.

Will we discuss the Reaction Papers in class?

Yes, be prepared to express your reactions.
