The Lady and The Soldier - Explination

"So," October begins slowly, after a moments thoughtful silence. Her brow draws down in confusion and some small concern, taking in the gleaming armour and sword. "You were raised to believe magic and sorcery are evil?"

Genehsee's voice thickens with the urgent need to be understood. Her frost-hued eyes plead with the bard to comprehend her disagreeable history, and she leans forward intently. "Not just evil, but monstrous! Horrendous! The most vile and revolting deed ever to be uncovered. We had brigades specifically trained to the task of questing for Sorcerers and neutralizing their powers." Despite the heat from the fireplace, the soldier woman shudders violently, back twisting in fear of remembering and the pain of what could have been.

"Neutralizing. Also known as 'Spellbinding'. All magical ability is immediately extracted from the body in the form of hard stones through the mouth and nose called 'Lapidate'." Her ice blue eyes narrow in anger and disgust. "Woman in my country consider Lapidate an expensive jewlery, to be worn with pride."

"After being Spellbound," she continues gravely, "The woman, man, or child usually goes mad and dies."

October shifts in her high-backed chair, ill at ease. Could this woman be planning to... 'Spellbind' her? To neutralize October's bardic magic?

To the next story...
