My genealogy interests

Campbell ... Alexander Campbell and Mary Cameron of Lochiel, Scotland came to Prince Edward Island in the 1700's. It is from their son, Lt. James Campbell and wife Elizabeth Townsend that my lineage descends. Honorable Archibald Campbell was the grandson of Lt James. He married Johanna Fredericka Helmenstine and the lineage continues on from Prince Edward Island to Dane and Iowa counties of Wisconsin. From there my mother Cerise Campbell met and married my father. They then settled in Black Hawk County, IA.

Mudica ... Here was my biggest challenge in my family searches, and one of the most interesting families to piece together. There were two generations of children who were placed in foster homes, adoption agencies, and just went off on their own paths. But being that the Mudica name is not a common one and there have only been two lines found to date, we feel confident that one day we will find the common ancestor of the two. The oldest ancestor that has been found is Peter Mudica who married a lady named Leann. While they were found in Indiana, it is not positive that Peter was born there. There has been reference made to his being born in Pennsylvania also.

From there, the son of Peter and Leann, James L Mudica and his wife Emma Knapp moved on to Winneshiek County, where their 9 children were born. This generation started the first of two who had children sent to orphanages. All nine children have now been accounted for. It is their son, Victor Hugo Mudica who descends to myself.

Smith ... The search began for my Smith ancestors in our local cemeteries. Armed with just a couple names, wonderful cousins that I have found on the internet, and the wealth of information out there for us; the Smith line has now been traced back to James Smith of England. From James Smith the lineage travels down to Fennimore L Smith and his wife Nancy Jane Brink. They probably met in Wisconsin as that is where they were married in Dane Co, 1860. They moved on to South Dakota where my great grandfather, Asa Smith met and married Barbara [Reddish, Radosh, Radish]. The came back to Black Hawk County, where we continue today.

Ackerman ... What was first thought to be three brothers who came from England to settle in Iowa in the 1850's, has finally turned into siblings of totally eleven. While we know that three brothers came to America for sure, there is still some uncertainty about the others. The family has now been traced back to Henry Acreman and Betty Ash, in Podimore, Somerset, England in the early 1700's. The surname has been found to be Acreman, Ackermann, Ackerman, Ackermant, Ackerment.

When they came to Black Hawk county, IA their surname was not spelled as Acreman in any of the documention that was found. Only one son had it spelled Ackermant, which later became Ackerman. It was Joseph, the son of Henry and Betty whose son's came to Iowa. My lineage descends from Robert and Martha [Davis] Ackerman.
