Rabies on WM

Transmission: Transmission of rabies virus usually begins when infected saliva of a host is passed to an uninfected animal, aerosol transmission (i.e., nose, mouth, eyes etc..), and corneal transplantations. The most common mode of rabies virus transmission is rough the bite and virus-containing saliva of an infected host.

Signs and Symptoms: The first symptoms of rabies may be nonspecific flu-like signs -- malaise, fever, or headache, which may last for days. There may be discomfort or paresthesia at the site of exposure (bite), progressing within days to symptoms of cerebral dysfunction, anxiety, confusion, agitation, progressing to delirium, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, and insomnia. The acute period of disease typically ends after 2 to 10 days (6). Once clinical signs of rabies appear, the disease is nearly always fatal.

Infection: When the virus is caught, the virus incibates for 3-12 weeks. At this time the creature shows no sign of illness. When the virus reaches the brain, it multiplies quickly, spreading to the saliva glands, which is when signs of the illness shows. The creature soon starts to become insane. After 7 days of reaching the brain the creature usually dies.

Carriers: A few of the deer are carrying the disease along with a few hares. If these creatures are taken down and devoured your character is exposed to the rabid blood therefore getting rabies. (I will play the rabid prey).

If your creature is infected with rabies please email SilentShadows at DeadlyShadows@hotmail.com with when your character got the virus.
