The Department of Defence has identified 300 hectares of land at Portsea as surplus to Defence requirements. "No decision has been made on the future use of the Portsea site and no decision will be made until Defence completes the community consultation process. The community will have their say on the future use of this site," Ms Bailey said. "I visited the historical heritage precinct at Portsea earlier this year with the Federal Member for Flinders, Greg Hunt, and met with representatives from the community. "The Department of Defence has advised me that the community consultation process is about to begin and I encourage all local residents interested in this project to participate," she said. Last year the Federal Government committed $4 million to the restoration of the historical heritage precinct at Portsea.
