EXPANSION OF DEFENCE SONAR FACILITY
Thales Underwater Systems, a major supplier of leading edge underwater and sonar acoustics technology in Australia, will today unveil its upgraded sonar design and manufacturing facility.
Defence Minister Robert Hill will tour the TUS facility that provides the Australian Defence Force with vital sonar and underwater warfare technology.
The facility is based in New South Wales and provides for sonar design, test and manufacture for both Australia and overseas defence customers.
The upgrade will increase TUS' capacity to meet the growing demands of the Defence Force and to expand its commercial export contracts.
TUS projects include technology for the Collins submarines, HUON Minehunter Coastal ships, ANZAC frigates, FFG-7 guided missile frigate Upgrade Program, BARRA sonobuoys and the DJIMINDI lightweight torpedo program.  It has exported approximately $50 million in technology annually since 1997.
