Hittman....Worth The Wait?

Rewritten By: Incognito - 11/26/01

Highly Intensive Tongue Talent Makin All Nervous are the words that best describe Hittman, the Bronson rapper who's debut album has been waiting in the wings for about 2 years now. Rumors surfaced of Hittman's departure from Dre's Aftermath camp, but he cleared his status by saying he is still aboard with Dr. Dre. After impressive cameos on Dre's "2001" album with tracks like, "Big Egos" and "Ackrite," Hittman quickly disappeared and wasn't to be heard on other songs except DJ Hurricanes, "Don't Sleep" record. Fans have been waiting for an album from the Big Hitt for quite some time now...will it ever drop? Originally, Hittman's record was targeted to be released in 2000, but with The Up In Smoke Tour there wasn't any time.  In the summer of '01, a promo titled, "The Murder Weapon" along with DJ Ben Baller made it's way onto the net.  The sampler had Hitt rhymin over some recycled beats along with some skits and one Dr. Dre instrumental.  The promo was nothin to fall head over heels for.  It did anything but raise our expectations for his album up any higher.

Let's try to dig up some info on this record to see what rumors that have been floating that are true around.  Maybe the reason for the delay is because Dre hasn't been satisfied with the exposer Hittman has received. Dre may have been unhappy and thought Hitt wasn't ready for everyone yet. Dre popped Hitt into the end of the "Forgot About Dre" video to try and expose him a bit more. He dropped a hot little verse over one incredible beat...but his part was ALWAYS cut off. He was apart of The Up In Smoke Tour and many times joined on stage with Dre wearing his "Ackrite" shirt on. And in November, for the "Stan" video shoot, many people have claimed that Hitt was on the set talking about his album. So we know he's around for sho.

We know this: Dre will serve as executive producer, and according to Hittman, 5-7 beats will be tailored by Dre.  In an interview with ThaFormula.com in November '01, Hittman said his album would most likely see the light of day in the summer of 2002, with his first single droppin this spring.  Guests will feature Dre, Truth, Eminem, Kurupt, Nate Dogg and Knoc-Turn'al.  Production is will be taken care of by Battlecat, DJ Quik, Jay Dee, Soul Aquarians and of course Dr. Dre.  Hype about his album died down when Dr. Dre all of a sudden began to rave about Rakim's and Truth's solo records last December.  Hitt says they have been slowed down because Dre hasn't found the right single.  Though you can now count on the album to drop this summer, '02, with the debut single Dre's been lookin for to hit in the spring time.

I was sold that Dre tossed his ass just like King Tee and the rest of them one-time Aftermath signees.  One thing I do know is that Hittman will be on Knoc-Turn'al's debut record, and on "Sound Booming III." All this news got my hopes up again, but we won't be sure intil we here something from Dre himself, like a release date, cause he is the guy who is running the show. I gotta say I'm still just as hyped over Hitt as I was when I first heard him on "Chronic 2001"...I'd take Hittman's album over any album this year, so pleezbaleevit! -Incognito
