After Leif's surgery, his chest was left open for five days to let the swelling go down. His Norwood is the ONLY surgery that his chest has been left open. Prior to surgery, this was the scariest part for me, although even our nurse advocate was very matter-of-fact "oh yeah, it will be open" about it. I include these pictures on my site in hopes it will reassure other parents facing surgery. Both pictures were taken on the second day after surgery.
