VISIONS 1998

In 1998, after 5 years taking a supporting membership, I was finally able to attend the Visions Doctor Who convention in Chicago during Thanksgiving Day weekend. The Doctor Who guest list was outstanding with SYLVESTER MCCOY (7TH DOCTOR), LOUISE JAMESON (LEELA), CAROLINE JOHN (LIZ SHAW), GEOFFREY BEEVERS (THE MASTER IN "KEEPER OF TRAKEN"), TERRY WALSH (SERIES STUNT COOORDINATOR), MARK STRICKSON (TURLOUGH), and LISA BOWERMAN (KAARA IN "SURVIVAL")

THE WHO CAST!

Clockwise from back left: Goeffrey Beevers, Caroline John, Sylvester McCoy (Holding my sonic screwdriver replica), Mark Strickson, Lisa Bowerman, Me (Trying to look cool), and Louise Jameson. Sylvester joked about how many people forget that his Doctor never actually had a sonic screwdriver. The first time he ever picked one up was during the filming of the TVM and he had to admit he had no idea which end was which. Louise Jameson was an especially good sport considering her work schedule. She left her job in England on Friday afternoon, flew to America, then flew back to England to report to work Monday morning.

ULTIMATE SHINY THING

When I was a sophomore in highschool I made a Police Public Call Box out of balsa wood. I carefully scaled it and painted it to look as close to the real thing as possible using just pictures from various sources. More than 20 years later it was signed by the guests. Since than I added the autographs of Mary Tamm (Romana 1) and John Leeson (K9). This pic is of part of the doors and features Sylvester McCoy's cool sig.

BOB AND PATTI MCLAUGHLIN

Bob McLaughlin and his wife Patti are the founders of the Visions conventions. At the closing ceremonies he received a well deserved standing ovation from the guests and attendees. Along with the Who guests other celebrities were Nigel Bennett (Forever Knight), Nicholas Brendon (Buffy), Erin Gray (Buck Rogers), Kent McCord (Galactica 1980), and Tracy Scoggins and Robin Atkin Downs (Babylon 5). Another great feature of Visions was the charity auctions. Celebrities brought in ver rare and valuable items to sell with all the procedes going to the Lamb Farm charity for children.
