COURSE DESCRIPTION: An introduction to the principles of sociological analysis, the dynamics of the community, culture and society. Emphasis is placed upon norms, status's, organizations, roles and their relationships in institutions. COURSE GOALS: Students will acquire familiarity with the basic sociological theories and research methods and be able to apply them to concrete problem settings.

Week of Devember 8-12 Final Exam.
Class Work: Assigned reading in the text book plus a research paper and tests are required. Test: Test must be taken on the assigned dates. These test will be "objective" constituted by multiple choice items. During this semester their will be 2 test given. Paper: Using sociological concepts or theorys, concepts and practice write an essay in which you analyze some aspect of a topics listed below. You must use out side sources and supporting materials. This paper must be a minimal of 5 pages, typed double spaced and must be turned in on November 25, 1997. Students who participate in the Sleep-Out will submitt a 3 page double spaced paper on their experience. This paper will be due Tuesday, December 2, 1997.
Topics for papers should come from the following:
Given the general definition of culture and in light of today's world and the current popularity of Hip-Hop....Can Hip-Hop be recognized as a culture or Homelessness and the preceptions of a non-homeless society. Other topics will be considered upon request.
Grading Procedures: Your grade for the semester will
come from the four areas listed below: Attendance/Letter grade given (There are 15 weeks
to this class or 30 class sessions. You can not be
penalized for not coming but, I can reward those
who do come.) Class Participation/Letter grade given (Participation
is important to this class and to me.
If you are not here you can not participate and will
graded accordingly)
