May 14, 1938-The keel of the Impero is laid down in the Cantieri Ansaldo shipyards in Genoa.
November 15, 1939-The Impero is launched.
June 1, 1940-The Impero is transferred to Brindisi in South Italy, moving the ship farther from feared French attacks against the incomplete battleship.
January 22, 1942-The Impero is first towed to Venice, but then transferred to Trieste.
September 8, 1943-The Impero is transferred into the German Navy to be used as a weapons testing target.
February 20, 1945-The Impero is bombed and sunk during an Allied air raid.
October 1947-The Impero is raised and towed to Venice, where the still incomplete battlehip was beached and scrapped over the next three years.
