What Orgy Means to Me

Obviously, I wouldn't make a website about a band I didn't like or someone I'd just heard on the radio. I decided to make this page after seeing Orgy in concert over the summer of '99 and I thought I'd add a section about why and what Orgy means to me... it's kind of boring to some people so feel free to turn back now.

To me, Orgy is the abstract idea of art and of individuality all wrapped up. True tons of people like them, how is that individual? Well first off, their name shows that they aren't just this or that, but they're something new, something creative. A lot of people have done the glam rock thing (David Bowie, Marilyn Manson) but it seems like it was all just a show. Orgy does put on the makeup and the clothes for show yes, but it seems more like they want everything to be artistic and beautiful, rather than they just want to make more money. Candyass wasn't intended to be the most in-depth, personal album ever. It was done to be good music that people would like, and I think there is room in the music for people to add their own depth when they listen.

Another thing is the songs aren't designed for the MTV crowd...so Blue Monday was a remake who cares, it was a great song when New Order did it and it's still a great song when Orgy does it. Social Enemies is cool because it's almost like a freak's anthem in a way. Fiend and Dizzy are the kind of songs that remind you of people you hate...like personal vengence in listening. Gender, even though not many people ever list it as a favorite, is a really good song because I can relate to it. Maybe it's meaning is nothing near what I make it mean, but music is always open for personal interpretation.

Lastly, Orgy aren't just cool rock stars. Yeah, they get the beer and the women and the million dollars clothes... but they still take the time to talk to fans at concerts; they seem to appreciate fans. Limp Bizkit says they're fan oriented but then they turn around and diss people...like somewhere Fred Durst said Slipknot fans are fat, lazy, and stupid. Suprise Fred some of Slipknot's fans were yours too til you said that. Orgy has never, and I doubt they will ever, cop the attitude that they're too good for everyone. They realize they have a finite timeline and are living it up, but not forgetting the little people...that's why they're so cool- they're a personal band.

And so... Thank you Jay, Paige, Amir, Bobby, and Ryan for having a positive impact on my life and the lives of others. Thanks for putting out the idea that not all glamorous stars are fake assholes, and the message that it's ok to be yourself.
