The Fourth Generation Prelude (1992-1996)

The fourth generation Prelude was introduced in late 1991 as a 1992 model. It was a big change in style from the last generation. In 1992, the Prelude was availible in three versions, the S, Si and the Si 4WS. The S came with a 2.2L SOHC 16 valve engine that made 135 HP. The Si had a 2.3L DOHC 16 valve engine that put out 160 HP. The Si of course came with extra things such as alloy wheels instead of steel rims. The Si 4WS was the same as the Si except it came with four wheel steering and a standard passenger side airbag. The interior was far from typical Honda styling. It featured electronic fuel and coolent temp. gauges centered in the middle of the dash. This was to get the passenger "more invoved in the driving exprerience". The back seat is just the right size for a new-born baby. Anyone else is going to be crammed in. In 1993 Honda released the Prelude VTEC. The VTEC had already been availible in Japan in 1992. The VTEC had a 2.2L DOHC 16 valve powerplant. But with the advantage of the VTEC system, put out a remarkable 190 HP. Small changes took place over the years, the most major was a redesigned interior in 1994. It was named a Car and Driver Top Ten every year it was produced.
