SLO Assessment: WLD 104 students did not meet assessment criteria for written communication skills on summary reports of practical applications.  The average rating of student performance for mechanics was 2.40 on a 4.0 scale.  Students experienced particular problems with spelling and punctuation.

·         Participate in a professional development program on constructing effective writing exercises and assessing students’ writing skills.

·         Place greater emphasis on written communication skills in course materials and assignments.

1. The instructor will revamp assignments and assessment techniques in WLD 104 in an effort to help students demonstrate competency in written communication skills when developing reports of practical applications.

·         The instructor will require summary reports for additional practical applications.

·         He will preview the writing assessment rubric with students before the initial summary report and share assessment results with them as they complete each report, emphasizing areas needing improvement.

·         Students will average 3.0 or higher in each performance category for written communication skills on selected summary reports.

·         Peer reviewers will report that all course materials (SLOs, assessment plan statements, syllabi, etc.) related to this TEO meet or exceed standards of excellence.
