SLO Assessment: WLD 104 students
did not meet assessment criteria for written communication skills on summary
reports of practical applications. The
average rating of student performance for mechanics was 2.40 on a 4.0
scale. Students experienced particular
problems with spelling and punctuation. |

Participate in a professional development program on constructing
effective writing exercises and assessing students’ writing skills. ·
Place greater emphasis on written communication skills in course
materials and assignments. |
1. The instructor will revamp assignments
and assessment techniques in WLD 104 in an effort to help students demonstrate
competency in written communication skills when developing reports of
practical applications. |

The
instructor will require summary reports for additional practical applications. ·
He
will preview the writing assessment rubric with students before the initial summary
report and share assessment results with them as they complete each report,
emphasizing areas needing improvement. |

Students
will average 3.0 or higher in each performance category for written
communication skills on selected summary reports. ·
Peer
reviewers will report that all course materials (SLOs, assessment plan statements, syllabi, etc.) related to this TEO meet or exceed standards of excellence. |
