Criteria for Success

· The average rating of student achievement in each performance category for written communication skills (structure, content and mechanics) will be 3 or higher on a scale of 1-4.

Assessment Findings

· Students did not meet assessment criteria in mechanics. The average rating in this category was 2.60. Several students experienced particular problems with spelling and punctuation.

Strategies for Improvement

· Secure dedicated writing tutors for the management department.

· Participate in professional development programs on constructing effective writing exercises.

· Include more writing exercises in regularly scheduled assignments.

· Preview rubrics that will be used to assess students’ writing skills.

· Share assessment results with students.
