VARIOUS ASSESSMENT PLAN STATEMENTS
Biology Assessment Plan Statement # 1
Intended
Outcome # 1 (SLO). Biology majors will display proficiency in
identifying key biological concepts and principles.
Assessment
Measures, Techniques, and Target Courses/Activities. BIOL201
students will complete a series of examinations, in which questions related to
key biological concepts and principles have been embedded. Faculty will evaluate students’ answers to
the embedded questions across all sections.
Assessment
Criteria/Expected Results. At least 80 percent of students will answer
each embedded question correctly.
Biology Assessment Plan Statement # 2
Intended
Outcome # 2 (SLO). Biology majors will demonstrate expertise in
applying key biological concepts and principles to practical problems in a
laboratory setting.
Assessment
Measures, Techniques, and Target Courses/Activities. BIOL201
students will complete weekly lab projects.
Faculty will use an assessment rubric to evaluate randomly selected
projects during the fourth, eighth and twelfth weeks.
Assessment
Criteria/Expected Results. Students
will achieve an average rating of 4 or higher on a scale of 1-7 in each
performance area on selected lab projects.
Biology Assessment Plan Statement # 3
Intended
Outcome # 3 (SLO). Biology majors will demonstrate competency in
using the standard scientific format to prepare reports of findings.
Assessment
Measures, Techniques, and Target Courses/Activities. BIOL201
students will prepare reports of findings for weekly lab projects. Faculty will use an assessment rubric to
evaluate randomly selected reports during the fourth, eighth and twelfth weeks.
Assessment
Criteria/Expected Results. Students will achieve an average rating of 4
or higher on a scale of 1-7 in each performance area on selected reports of
findings.
English Assessment Plan
Statement
Intended
Outcome (SLO).
Undergraduate English
students will demonstrate expertise in information research techniques.
Assessment
Measures, Techniques, and Target Courses/Activities. ENGL102
students will complete a research project.
Faculty peers from several institutions will evaluate randomly selected
projects using a rating form for determining the appropriate use of basic
information research techniques.
Assessment
Criteria/Expected Results. In at least 75 percent of selected research
projects, students will receive ratings of 3 or 4 on a 4-point scale in each
performance area.
Communication
Assessment Plan Statement
Intended Outcome (SLO). Communication majors will exhibit expertise
in basic information technology skills.
Assessment Measures, Techniques, and Target
Courses/Activities. COMM341 students will complete a
research project involving a detailed Internet search, a written report (MS Word),
and a PowerPoint presentation. A jury of
faculty will evaluate the projects using an assessment rubric developed by the
program assessment committee.
Assessment Criteria/Expected Results. Students will meet or exceed performance
standards in over 80 percent of research projects.
Management
Assessment Plan Statement
Intended Outcome (SLO). The performance of senior management students
on a comprehensive standardized exam will compare favorably to that of
management students graduating from peer institutions.
Assessment Measures, Techniques, and Target
Courses/Activities. MGT413 students
will take the ETS Major Field Test in Business during the eighth week of the
spring semester. ETS will process
completed exams and return score reports for individual students and the norm
group at least two weeks prior to the end of the semester.
Assessment Criteria/Expected Results. At least 75 percent of graduating students
will score at or above the 50th percentile on the Major Field Test.
