Course Description:
This course
provides students with a minimum of 240 hours of theory instruction, laboratory
experiences and the practical application of manicuring, pedicuring
and nail extension services through the
240 Clock Hours Include:
Total theory hours 80
Total clinical hours 160
Prerequisite: Minimum TABE scores
Course Objectives:
1. List the abilities of a good manicurist
2. Identify the four natural nail shapes
3. Demonstrate the proper use of implements, cosmetics, and materials used in manicuring
4. Demonstrate the proper procedure and sanitary precautions for a manicure
5. Demonstrate massage techniques used when giving a manicure
6. Define and demonstrate the different types of manicures
7. Explain and demonstrate advanced nail techniques
8. List the safety precautions for manicuring
9. Demonstrate the procedure for a pedicure
10. Describe the structure and composition of nails
11. Describe the structures adjoining and affecting nails
12. Discuss how nails grow
13. List the various disorders and irregularities of client’s nails
14. Recognize diseases of the nails that should not be treated in the beauty salon

Evaluation:
The student must score at least 80% on pre-test or study and retake the test
The student must score 80% on Unit Test in order to pass
There are no retakes on Unit Test

A Sanitation grade will be averaged into
your final grade for each subject being taught. Everyone begins with a 100 with
a deduction of 5 points for each incident of workstation not being sanitized or
leaving implements unclean, this also includes brushes, bowls, etc. in the
dispensary area. Also, if you are using another student’s station for any
reason, it is to be cleaned by you or the deduction of points will come from
your grade not theirs.
There will also be a 5 point deduction from
your clinical grade for not attending on clinical days,
unless you have a Doctors note or other documentation rendering a valid
absence.
F. Withdrawal:
Up until the mid-point of the semester, a student may withdraw without the instructor’s permission. After the mid-point, the student may withdraw only WITH the express permission of the instructor, or the instructor may assign a grade. After the mid-point, instructors may involuntarily withdraw or assign an F grade to a student for excessive absences (as defined in the syllabus) after notifying the student in writing.
