Ice Age MUCK: Territory

Territory

What are territories?

Territories are areas of the playing grid set aside to be claimed by animal groups: packs, prides, herds, clans, etc. These rooms can serve as the group's homes themselves, or the group may build outward from them. Of course, the territories are limited, and each may be held by only one group at a time; this attempts to simulate territorial struggles between real animals.

What do territories look like?

You'll know when you've found an unclaimed territory because there will be an asterisk (*) in the name. For instance, if you found a room called "Thunder Ridge*", you've found an open territory!

How do I claim a territory?

Simply send a muck-mail, or page to Dusty. She is currently managing territories. They're passed out on a first-come, first-served basis. The rooms and exits will be @chowned to the claimant, who is then assumed to be the leader of the group.

Rules of ownership

We ask that you follow a couple simple rules for territories; first and most important is that you DO NOT delete any rooms or exits that already exist! This is because the territories are laid out on a grid with the rest of the muck, and to erase them would mess up the rest of the grid. You CAN, however, add to your territory as much as you feel is needed. Second, you must describe the rooms in your territory; most of the unclaimed territory rooms are not fully described, this is your duty as the proud new owner. Finally, groups take priority for territory. If you live in a territory all alone, and a group (pack/clan/pride/etc.) requests it, you may be asked to give up ownership to them. Of course, if you can convince them to join you, there's no problem! The struggle for territory can be an interesting source of role-play, too.
