Ronstadt fired for praising Moore film Vegas casino erupts after singer's comments Canadian Press July 20, 2004

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Singer Linda Ronstadt was fired by a Las Vegas casino for praising filmmaker Michael Moore and his new movie Fahrenheit 9/11 during a performance.

Before singing Desperado for an encore Saturday night, Ronstadt called Moore a "great American patriot" and "someone who is spreading the truth." She also encouraged the audience at the Aladdin hotel-casino to see the documentary about President George W. Bush. Ronstadt's comments drew loud boos and some of the 4,500 people in attendance stormed out of the theatre. People also tore down concert posters and tossed cocktails into the air.

"It was a very ugly scene," Aladdin president Bill Timmins said. "She praised him and all of a sudden all bedlam broke loose." Timmins said he didn't allow Ronstadt back in her luxury suite afterward and she was escorted off the property.

Ronstadt "spoiled a wonderful evening for our guests and we had to do something about it," Timmins said. Ronstadt, 58, had been booked to play the Aladdin for only one show.

On Monday, Moore released a letter he said he intends to send to Timmins.

"For you to throw Linda Ronstadt off the premises because she dared to say a few words in support of me and my film, is simply stupid and Un-American," Moore wrote. Calls to Ronstadt's manager were not immediately returned.

In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper before the show, Ronstadt said: "I keep hoping that if I'm annoying enough to them, they won't hire me back."

Timmins said Ronstadt would not sing at the Aladdin again: "As long as I'm here, she's not going to play."

Moore said Timmins owes Ronstadt an apology.

"I have an idea how you can make it up to her -- and to the millions of Americans you have offended," Moore wrote.

"Invite her back and I'll join her in singing America the Beautiful on your stage. Then I will show Fahrenheit 9/11 free of charge to all your guests and anyone else in Las Vegas who wants to see it." © The Canadian Press 2004

What a Guy! Is anyone counting the civilian bodies and maimed who add up considerably with such Imperialist Expansion, commonly named such things as 'Heathens,' 'Infidels,' 'Savages,' 'Gooks,' 'Towelheads,' 'Fags,' or 'Niggers,' 'Liberals,' and 'The Poor,' whose cause in all its forms True 'Liberals' are committed to Champion, though if one reads the Scriptures beloved by so-called 'Conservatives,' one would conclude would be the position of the 'True-Conservative,' if any exist (so those so-Called conservative today designate as their Enemies, seem to be those for whom their Christianity seems to dictate the put first and foremost, but never do except at Christmas the rest of the year, they are 'Prey of the Day') , Etc.? Such, as these 'Namers' be, can only be described as being so very much like Hitler's Nazis in their ordered fervor to gain extreme Particularistic Nationalist, Military, Economic, and Religious power globally, and (for all practical purposes) to do it for the denied specific Bennefit of a familiar, bit vague version of a 'Super/Master Race;' The Antithesis of the Paradigm, 'All In A Life Boat Together!'

Can anyone still count us INNOCENT, who so blindly see only good where evil blooms forth from within the popular ignorance that is called the Culture of 'Patriotism (Fidelity)' to the Great White Father's LIES? Will the 'Most Influential President' of the 21st Century be named George W. Bush: 'The Just?' And will the next idiot down the pipeline to succeed to the Presidency be an Ex-POW who sold out his nation in order to remain a Republican twice, who actually should have turned Green if he really means what he says are his values, minus his dumb-assed right wing stance on Imperialist War?

Most of the Murders committed in all of human history have been committed in the name of 'Honorable Obedience' to Conquerors more than to Defenders, what Heroes we be when we can not experience disgust at the excesses of our own appetites and remember that we are all made the same regardless of uniform, flag, color, sex, sexual orientation, creed, ethnicity or religion!"
