The Society is comprised of five individuals who have come together due to a common interest: ghosts! Every member has an equal standing in the Society - there is no one of higher status than another. Some members may have more knowledge or have had more experiences on the subject, but all members have equal status. There is a coordinator to notify members of meetings, events or investigations, and on occasion, there will be a spokes-person when needed, but there is no "founder", "president", or any other such titled person.
Even though we enjoy what we do and have fun when conducting any investigation, we are also very serious about what we do. Our equipment consists of cameras, tape recorders, sound meters, motion detectors, infra-red, and other such devices that help us find the spirits of the dead that dwell among us.
While we realize that some members are more "sensitive" than others at feeling or sensing a ghostly presence, we do not use psychics, nor do we encourage anyone who claims to be psychic to attend any of our investigations. Anyone can claim to be a psychic, but it does not prove anything.
We do not indulge in satanic rituals or witchcraft - this has nothing to do with ghosts!
We do not perform seances or use ouija boards and we discourage both and recommend to those of you who may indulge in this activity to discontinue this practice. The entities who may come to you during those circumstances are not the same as those who remain as a ghost. A ghost is normally linked to a place, and most ghosts seem to have a reason for remaining in this realm. Do not confuse the two, as they are very different!
Some of our members have been conducting investigations and looking for ghosts for many years, while other members have recently joined us, and are just learning how to conduct themselves while on an investigation. Our society is very involved with each other as members, and we teach and help one another. As a society, we not only conduct investigations, but we also instruct, assist and educate anyone who believes that they may be experiencing ghostly phenomenon; or those who are just simply curious. Sometimes we find that a ghost is not responsible for what was thought as ghostly activity.
The general public has a misconception about ghosts. Most also have a pre-concieved notion of how a ghost is supposed to look. Most people are usually wrong about both. As members of G.I.S., we hope to help anyone who cares to learn and expand their minds in understanding. We also try to help ease the fears towards the ghosts who have chosen to stay and co-exist among us.
(The G.I.S. & Protocol was written by G.I.S. member Barbara McBeath and accepted by G.I.S. members on Sept. 15, 1999).
