Cotpb Chap 4

The rain was running down the clouds as Sky and I were struggling to keep our eyes opened. The water made us lose Raine from sight, which made us pretty anxious. We both knew she was injured and that she might not be able to stand weather like that for long. Walking slowly in the direction that Raine went, we arrived in a village ruins. All was burned down, thrown away and a smell of fire floated around even if the rain was racing to the ground. This sight reminded me of the last town I visited. This scene made me stop making a small prayer for everyone that had disappeared in the destruction of the town. The weather wasn't getting better in the distance, we could hear thunder coming as winds started to make the small trees let themselves loose. "Sky, we have to find a dry place where we could pass the next hours. I don't think staying in the forest or out here in the ruins is a good idea. Go check the north part of the city, I'll check the southern part. We'll meet again in ten minutes, all right? " A small nod confirmed that I had been understood. I went in the southern part of the town, looking around, trying to find a place where we would be shielded from the rain, the thunder and the wind. As I was walking around to find a place to go, the wind and the water were staring to freeze me up, making my leg feel a little stiff. I walked anyway, not knowing if I could find anything. After walking upon several places where houses stood, I saw a black shadow in the distance. This shadow was walking away, going to the east. A risk had to be taken then : should I follow the person or whatever was taking a walk in the rain or should I restrain myself from following what could be a trap. I continued to walk, ignoring the shadow, trying to find somewhere to stay, but this part of the town had been almost completely razed. I returned to the town center, all wet and trembling for various reasons. The shadow, who was it? Have I been followed by the green creatures all that was or there is someone still living in the town? I finally arrived at the place where I left Sky some time ago. I sat on the border of a destroyed fountain, waiting in the rain for her to come back. The thunder was getting closer, and the wind was getting furious by the minute and I was waiting for Sky to come back. For what I could see, she wasn't coming, she wasn't even close of her, or I could hear her boots in the muddy puddles. I continued to wait for my sister, in the rain, and in the storm. The thunder was crawling in the sky, torturing the clouds and more than once, they whipped the ground with enormous sounds. Where I used to live, we never saw thunderstorms as harsh as this one. It was terrible, the wind was blowing and the rain was pouring and my wait was becoming a torture. Suddenly, the thunder struck on a long piece of wood that was not really far from me. I just had time to turn around to look at what was happening, only to see the lightning jump around, from the tree to a piece of metal that had been placed on the piece of wood. Chunks of wood were falling to the ground and I got up, and tried to find somewhere to hide until the storm was over. Finally, I found a house, that was in a pretty bad shape, but seemed just enough to permit me to stay safe from the rain and the wind. I got in and remarked that there was a trap door in the floor, just near the entrance. Without questioning myself, I got in, sat on the ground and waited that all passed. Some noises coming from not far away made me change my sitting position. The sound was not reassuring at all, so I hurried to the trap to block it so it could not be opened manually. After doing so, the cold and my endurance failing made me fall asleep in the cellar of the house. "It is done master, said a dark creature, staying in the shadow of a gloomy room, I made what you asked me. They are separated." The master did not reply with a single word, and not a single move. The dark servant looked up to his boss, met his eyes and understood that it wasn't enough. He had to do more, he had to separate them completely and make them unable to get together again. "I will, said the servant, try better next time. I did not know that those were your wishes. I will not fail next time, I will make them all perish..." "Or you will perish, said the master impatiently to his helper." With a small gulp the shadow disappeared from the corner where he was standing, vanishing to think about his plan to separate the "chosen ones". How he hated these heroes that were coming to get him, just thinking about them made him frown. He had to get the away from one another but how? He reappeared in another room, thinking about how he could do so, but a past failure haunted him. "I have failed to destroy you twice, you little rat, next time, you won't be as lucky. Voices near me made me make up from my slumber. Still tired, I did not open my eyes but I still stretched. While I was getting my muscles ready for another walk, I accidentally hit someone. Quickly, I opened my eyes, looking about and a strange person was just beside me, standing up. "I think I found him, he shouted, he was well hidden. Good thing he didn't wait until you came, because he wouldn't be here anymore. Getting up slowly, I looked at the person that was near. He was taller than me looked like a normal person , with hair cut short and he had a red bandage over his eyes, with a symbol on it. He stood there, stoic, not saying a word, just waiting. Standing beside him made me feel uncomfortable, I was feeling intimidated to be in a presence of such a strange-looking person. I was trying to hide my uneasiness to him but he seemed to know that I was nervous, probably because I was walking around, unable to settle down. Finally, after a long wait, a familiar face was in my line of sight. Sky was there, going down into the small cellar telling me how sorry she was for not going back to tell me where she had found a place to hide from the storm. "Don't worry, I said, it's not like there's been a tornado or anything, I would have been all right out there." Her face changed expression so fast, it could only mean one thing. I went out of the cellar, running in the stairs, going out to check how was the little building, but the only thing that was there to show there had been a house were some floor boards. All around, devastation laid like a master keeps his ground. It couldn't be that terrible, I couldn't believe it. I turned to Sky and asked her where she hid from the fury. "Well, she said, I arrived in a camp, there was an elf sitting in a corner with other people, healing Rai-Rai. Luckily, Chaos found you in the cellar. The house had shattered and a pile of debris was over the trap floor." I turned to Chaos devil, thanking him for his deed, and started to walk out of the remains of the house. I asked Sky to show me where the camp was and as we were walking there, an eerie glow came out from the corner of my line of sight. I stopped, turned around but nothing was there. My sister turned to me, looked at me, oddly, asking what happened but I remained silent on that glow. We continued walking, talking about the wind, talking about the last days, the dragons, a little bit of Andy and a little about Raine. The death of Andy made me realize how close I was to death, and it made me see that I was constantly on the border of disaster. I decided to tell her about the glow that I saw but she said nothing that could help me find what it was. I changed the subject, started to talk about Raine. She seemed strange for me, her wings made her different, just like I was. I knew this world was odd, full of surprises, completely unknown and it was making me feel all right. I wasn't expecting to see fairies, dragons, vampires and other creatures and never I would have imagined to find a part of my family here. All was strange, interesting, but I still had to be on my guard, we never know what can happen. During the discussion, the glow appeared again and without saying a word, I got up, and started to run towards it. Sky followed but running around, going left, going right, zigzagging, it was getting tougher and after about half an hour, I arrived to the object that was glowing. It was a small orb, floating in the air, standing at about 3 feet from me. A voice echoed in my head. This voice told me something, but I could not say who was talking, but this voice reminded me of someone I knew. At first I did not understand what he said, but as the orb came closer, I could hear the voice better. This voice said : "I'm Jovales, the master of arms of this city. Unfortunately, you arrived a little late and I had to put a message for you. In my house, there is a bookshelf. Behind it, there is a sheet, with words written on it. The words hold the future but anything you do can make it all take off. Read the paper and destiny will be opened for you, and for anyone that's near. With the paper, there is a staff, take it, it's yours. You will need it." With these last words, the orb vanished and Sky arrived. I told her about the orb and everything but again, there was nothing that she could tell me about it. We restarted our walk towards the little camp. When we arrived an elf greeted me, presenting herself as Emmelyne. She was pretty small but seemed to be able to stand of a lot of time in the forest, doing various things. Her brown hair was highlighted with the blond piece of hair. The blue braids in her hair gave her a touch of something that you don't see everything. It's like if someone showed you some marvellous magic trick with a penny and gives you the penny. This prized item becomes the center of all imagination, the center of all tricks, and these braids made me think of magic. I don't really know why I was thinking about that at this particular moment, but this intuition seemed right. I greeted the person at the camp and while I was sitting down I remarked that the ears of Emmelyne were pointy. I was surprised to see her ears pointed but I then realized anything could happen in this world so I just relaxed and looked around. The camp was installed in the remains of a house, in a remote corner of a village. The walls were solid, they could hold place, the ceiling was as high as the blue could go and the floor was badly damaged at some places. Sitting around, there were Sky, Raine, which looked better from the last day when I saw her, Emmelyne and I. No words were spoken until another person came into the camp, sat down. This person was older than I was, had pale blond hair and some blue-violet eyes. In his back laid a sword, placed carefully in his sheath placed in the back of this person. Just as he sat down, his eyes became troubled and his voice began resonating in the entire ruins. While he was looking at Sky, he was telling her stuff that could never have imagined :(note to Matt : need help on here...)
