Marriage was considered invalid due to the fact that the marriage did nottake place in the glare of public scrutiny and it is believed that thetwo were somehow related (possibly they were 1st cousins). This was notcorrected until a dispensa tion was granted, and then Robert and Elizabethwere legally married, this was *after* all of their children were born. The dispensation legitimized all the children of the marriage.
