First Visit

I was led to our reunion
and early child and mother.
Our bracelets matched;
assurance of belonging
to one another.

You lay naked in a false tropic;
a greenhouse orchid of rare pallor.
Touch could bruise your translucence.
The curled leaf of an ear defied secrets
once ours.....

The room pulsed of droning bees and
exotic,mechanical birdsong;
I was dizzy in the heat.

Threats of tears and screaming milk
were gathering like the mist
that was a shroud about your face.
I yearned to see your eyes
or have my finger caught
in your hands' embrace.

I was led from our reunion,
a fragile child and mother.
Our spirits matched;
assurance of belonging to one another.

Julie is now 12 years old.
Although she is hearing impaired and has a rare kidney disease called "Bartters Syndrome" (that is being controlled with several daily medications) she is a happy, well adjusted, active young lady.
