1. Prior to any summon, clear the mind. The mind should not be cluttered, but rather focused.
2. Obtain a copy of the spirit’s sigil. If the spirit has no sigil, use some method to create a sigil for it. (Ex : the Rose Cross)
3. Memorise the sigil. The summoner must be able to fully visualise the sigil in the mind’s eye with little effort.
4. Prepare a time for the summoning to take place. This time can be within a few moments to days away.
5. If the spirit being summoned has never been summoned before, setting up a circle of protection is generally a good idea. The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram or the Banishing Ritual of the Hexagram are both excellent protective circles.
6. When the summoner is ready, the sigil should be visualised strongly. While visualising the sigil, the spirit should be called out to. The call can be solely the spirit’s name, or an ode or chant personally created. (Ex : if summoning Raphael, one could either simply call out «Raphael» or call out with «Raphael, angel of healing, hear me. Come to me.» or some other such chant.)
7. After some time, the spirit will appear within the mind’s eye. Advanced summoners can summon the spirit onto the physical plane through certain techniques learned over time.
8. Once the spirit has come, a greeting to the spirit should be given. Afterwards, one may either converse with the spirit for a short time, or directly proceed to the purpose of summoning.
9. The purpose of summoning should be stated to the spirit. (This is the reason it was summoned and what it will be asked to do.) After the purpose has been stated, the spirit should be asked if it is capable of performing the task. If it is not, conversation can begin, or the spirit can be dismissed. If it can, request the spirit to perform the task.
10. Once the spirit’s ability to perform the given task is accessed, the summoner may ask the spirit how long it will need to complete the task. If this is not desired, the spirit should be thanked.
13. A cleansing ritual may be performed if desired. The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is suggested.
14. Once the spirit has performed the task assigned to it, it should be thanked again, with or without summoning.
