Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters. They belong to Chris
Carter, 1013 Productions, and FOX television and brought to life by the
lovely Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. They are used without
permission, but not for profit, so don't sue me because I have no money.
Summary: Scully's got a question...

Author's Notes: This is inspired by a conversation my prom date and I had
and I thought it might for Mulder and Scully. Excuse the talking heads,
but what they say is more important than how they're sitting, etc.
There's no subtext, just a normal conversation. It's a far cry from what
I usually write, but don't hate me. I'll go back to shmoopy romance
after this, I promise.

"Mulder, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure, Scully."

"Have you ever thought about our relationship?"

"What do you mean?"

"I thought it was a pretty straight-forward question."

"Yeah, I've thought about it many times. I was trying to clarify the
context of the quesiton."

"I was just thinking about us and how well we work together. I've never
had a friend like you before."

"What do you mean?"

"Someone I could trust with everything and someone who really understands
me."

"I guess you could say we're the perfect pair."

"Most people already do."

"Oh really?"

"Yeah. You should hear them. People are always asking me if we're
friends or *friends*. I mean, how do you think I got the nickname 'Mrs.
Spooky'?"

"Haven't they ever heard of a platonic relationship?"

"They're educated people. I'm sure they've heard of one, but I guess
they've never seen one in action. I mean, on television, whenever you
see two characters of the opposite sex together, if they're not involved
when the show starts its run, they will be by the end."

"I just love being a living model for others to observe."

"It could be worse."

"How?"

"Well, we could end up like most of those 'platonic' couples on TV that
can't stand each other because they dated and it ended badly. We'll
never have to experience a 'break-up' and I'll never have to lose my best
friend."

"When you put it that way, it doesn't sound so bad. Sometimes I wish
people would mind their own business and keep their noses out of our
private lives."

"That's what happens when you're a living model...no one will leave you
alone."

"You know, Scully, sometimes I wonder what goes on in that pretty little
head of yours."

"You'll never know, Mulder, you'll never know."

The End

Ok, I had to write that...did it need to be written? Maybe not, but I
feel better now. Okay, I'm done with the whole platonic thing...I swear.
