New photos of Gale and his fellow cast members from the East Broadway premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival are up at Getty images. The pictures were taken by Bryan Bedder. Reports from fans who saw the film have been quite positive; Gale attended the screening but left the theatre before the question and answer session with Fay Ann Lee.

The wait is over! The Futon Critic reports that FOX has picked up Gale Harold's new series, Vanished. Brian Ford Sullivan writes, "With three weeks to go until its upfront presentation, FOX has given early green lights to two of its pilots - the Brad Garrett-led comedy "'Til Death" and the Josh Berman-created drama "Vanished." Both have been given orders for 12 additional episodes beyond their respective pilots, sources close to each project confirmed this afternoon. The network is no stranger to early pickups, as last season FOX committed to "Prison Break" nearly a month before its upfront. [...] As for "Vanished," the 20th Century Fox Television-based project is a serialized drama about the search for a senator's wife who goes missing as part of a larger conspiracy, as told through the eyes of law enforcement, family members and the media. The show's ensemble cast includes Christopher Egan, Gale Harold, Joanne Kelly, John Allen Nelson, John Patrick Amedori, Margarita Levieva, Ming-Na, Rebecca Gayheart and Robert Hoffman. Mimi Leder directed the pilot from a script by Berman with Paul Redford also serving as an executive producer. Expect more details to be released when FOX formally announces its 2006-07 schedule on Thursday, May 18."

The Wall Street Journal reports that networks are starting to use the "24" format for its pilots this season. Each episode of "24" unfolds over the course of one hour, but it's taken five years for Hollywood to pay much notice. Several of this spring's pilots (including "Vanished") are modeled after the show's format, in which a dominant story line extends over the entire season. That's a departure from shows where a mystery gets resolved within an hour, and it's also a change from series like "ER" that have multiple, interwoven story lines. A TV show with a dominant, continuing story line "works like a 13-hour or 24-hour movie," says John Bauman, who represents TV writers at Gersh Agency. And that has attracted talented screenwriters. "Writers really want to write for these shows because they are character-driven," says Bauman, as opposed to the "plot-driven" format of most dramas about lawyers, doctors and cops. [read more]

Season 3 of Deadwood premieres June 11, 2006, on HBO. Gale will appear in episodes 8 (untitled) and 9 (Amateur Night), which should air on July 30th and August 6th, respectively, if no weeks are skipped.

TV Shows on DVD clears up some of the confusion regarding the release date for the QAF Season 5 DVDs. David Lambert writes, "Part of the confusion regarding the release date had to do with Showtime's distribution deal with Ventura. Ventura Distribution has been in a cash-poor situation since earlier this year, allegedly because the Musicland chain of stores (Suncoast, Sam Goody, and the late MediaPlay) had filed for bankruptcy and left Ventura high and dry for close to $6 million in invoices. Therefore, Showtime has alleged in a lawsuit, Ventura has not paid about $7 million to them for product sold. While Showtime's lawyers work the lawsuit, they are turning to Viacom sister company Paramount Home Entertainment for distribution of their DVDs. PHE sent out the release info, and they've settled on a May 30th release date." Prebook your copy with 10percent.com ("get folked one last time") and automatically be entered to win Brian's shirt, worn during an episode of QAF. Contest ends May 9th.

The reason for the delay in US releasing has no bearing in Canada since the Canadian edition of the DVD set is being released by Motion Picture Distribution LP which is an arm of Alliance-Atlantis Communications, the parent of Showcase TV. The role that Ventura held and PHE now holds for the US package is held by Universal Canada (as in NBC Universal) north of the border. Both Amazon.ca and CDPlus.com continue to show the Canadian release date as May 16. It is possible that the DVDs might actually be released earlier in Canada than in the US.

The "loaded extras" on the final season's DVDs include: Cyndi Lauper "Shine" Music Video; Rosie O'Donnell Photo Montage; Season Finale Wrap Party Reel; Season Finale Extended Scenes; Patrick Antosh Fashion Extra; A Special Message from The Trevor Project and Queer as Folk; SHO Original; Sneak Peek of Noah's Arc from LOGO Network; Queer as Folk Merchandise Sweepstakes.

Here's the description for the May 9th episode of The Unit, which will feature Gale Harold once again as Rory, the radio station manager who hired Kim for a Sales and Marketing position: "Bob's mission to protect the Secretary of State on a top-secret visit to Africa is compromised when his cover is blown. Back at home, Kim gets an unwelcome visit at the radio station from an admirer she spoke to on the phone, and Molly ponders whether to take advantage of a real-estate investment opportunity." You can view a preview clip of this episode at the official site once the May 2nd episode has aired.

Jason Isaacs, Sharon Gless, Lennie James and Eva Birthistle star in State Within, a conspiracy thriller coproduction with BBC America for BBC1 that is shooting in Canada until July. Written by Dirty War duo Lizzie Mickery and Dan Percival, the six-part series is set in the world of UK/US diplomacy. It follows 17 days in the life of the British Ambassador to the US, played by Isaacs. Jane Tranter, BBC controller of drama commissioning, described the show as "a high-octane, complex, action-packed conspiracy thriller" that has been "strongly authored" by Mickery and Percival. She added that the duo's "distinctive and intelligent" scripts are further evidence of the "ambition, modernity and bravura" of drama on BBC1. State Within will air in the UK later this year. Gay-themed films tend to ignore the fact that there is such a thing as a gay old man. But in the upcoming movie The Way Out, the life challenges of senior gay men are put into sharp focus. Produced by David Duchovny (Connie and Carla, The X-Files) , as well as by openly gay actors Robert Gant (Queer as Folk) and Chad Allen (The End of the Spear) for Mythgarden Productions, the narrative feature explores the difficult transition from independence to assisted living for an aging gay man. When a 73-year-old loses his life partner and is forced to move into a nursing home, he bristles at the confines of his new environment and at the homophobia around him, yet finds himself drawn to another male resident. The story of late love is currently in production for an unspecified future release. [source: windycitymediagroup.com

Twenty-six: that's the number of wildly uneven films by New York filmmakers in the "NY, NY" competition at the Tribeca Film Festival, according to NY metro. "Tread carefully and start with these two: East Broadway stars writer-director Fay Ann Lee as a city girl romping through a sprightly Chinatown romantic comedy with Gale Harold and Margaret Cho. Oren Rudavsky's quiet, tweedy The Treatment adapts Daniel Menaker's novel about a schoolteacher (Chris Eigeman) stuck between a hot widow (Famke Janssen) and an intense Freudian psychoanalyst (Ian Holm)."

The New York Blade also has an article about Tribeca that includes this line: "Several films include LGBT characters, actors and favorites, such as Alan Cumming and Deborah Harry in Full Grown Men and Maragaret Cho, Gale Harold and Christine Baranski in the Chinese-American Cinderella story East Broadway." The New York Resident includes East Broadway in its list of picks entitled Highlights From The 2006 Tribeca.

Good news for those of us waiting to see if Vanished will be greenlighted by 20th Century Fox. While there is no confirmation on whether the pilot has been picked up yet, Mediaweek reports that Fox and NBC received the most positive buzz from media buyers who attended the broadcast network development meetings last week. Fox entertainment president Peter Liguori had the most strategic focus in his presentation, according to buyers, and both NBC and Fox showed clips from some of their pilots, which added context to their plans. Liguori said Fox's development is being coordinated with current Fox hits and how well newly developed programming will lead in or out of those shows. "Fox said a lot, and they showed us a lot," said Donna Speciale, president of U.S. broadcast and programming for MediaVest. "I walked out of there feeling like Fox has momentum this season and is developing things with a strategy to keep that momentum going next season."

In a survey of network pilot orders for the 2006-07 season, presented in The Hollywood Reporter, author Andrew Wallenstein says that Fox will come into the fall largely at the mercy of its postseason baseball coverage, which weighed down its fourth-quarter ratings. All the network can do is repeat the strategy it employed in 2005-06: establish its entertainment programs as early in the season as it can and use baseball as a promotional base for male-friendly fare. That strategy helped first-year standouts "Prison Break" and "Bones," which gives the network more strength to build around. "We plan to stick with our fourth-quarter strategy again this year, but now we have a bigger stable of shows," said Preston Beckman, executive vp strategic program planning at Fox. That likely will mean new dramas come in as companions for established hours Monday-Wednesday. 20th Century Fox TV probably had the sexual tension between the protagonists in 'Bones' in mind when developing 'Primary,' which features romantically entangled hostage negotiators; the serialized suspense of 'Vanished' seems in the mold of Break. "Because we have 'Break,' 'House' and 'Bones,' we have clear targets for our dramas," Beckman said. "Our development was informed by those shows."

The May issue of The Wire features an excellent article/interview with Scott Walker by Rob Young and atmospheric photos taken by the documentary's Director of Photography Grant Gee. You have to buy the magazine to read it, but Stephen Kijak says it's well worth it - "a great interview in which the man himself offers up some welcome clues to some of the songs on his new album The Drift, which, need it be said again, is a monolithic masterpiece." The Drift, Scott's new album, received 5 Stars from Observer Music Monthly. The article is available here in pdf format.

On June 9th and 10th, Robert Gant will play the part of Mel Anderson in a two-day only staged reading of "Valley of the Dolls," based on the novel by Jacqueline Susann. Also starring are Ian Abercrombie (Henry Bellamy), Alec Mapa (Anne Wells), Gordon Thomson (Lyon Burke), Ted Casablanca as himself, and Tom Gregory (Kevin Gilmore). The event will take place at The Renberg Theatre at The Village, 1125 N. McCadden Place in Hollywood. Both performances will start at 8pm. All of the proceeds benefit the Gay and Lesbian Adolescent Social Services (GLASS), a private, non-profit social service agency dedicated to providing a wide range of social and health care services to children and youth who are in foster care, on probation, or who are homeless. To purchase advance tickets and Major Donor Packages, call Steve Tyler (323) 467-2002. Starting May 15, 2006 there will be a different telephone number & box office to purchase tickets.

More Robert news... filming on his new movie, "Save Me," also starring Chad Allen and Judith Light, begins this coming July in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In response to the rising incidence of HIV in Broward County, Craig R. Miller, MZA Events and AIDS Healthcare Foundation proudly present AIDS Walk/Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday, April 30th, 2006 starting and ending at Huizenga Plaza in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. A diverse crowd of thousands of walkers will be joined by celebrities, including Hal Sparks (Queer as Folk, Survival of the Richest), Deborah Gibson, Wilson Cruz, Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), Carson Kressley (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy) and Jessica Care More (Poet, Author and Activist) to raise awareness and funds to fight the AIDS epidemic in South Florida. Visit the AIDSWalk website for more information.

In an article for Dose.ca, Christine Clarke says Billable Hours is an everyman's show. "I think the hardest thing about these jobs and why people start to go nuts in these environments is because they have people telling them what to do all the time, as opposed to being able to make their own decisions," says Filippo, a playwright (Things Are Falling Always) and screen actor (Queer As Folk) who found the task of playing an office-type cowing. "It was weird being in the elevators with all these people checking their BlackBerrys and that depressed whiff in the air." Should Filippo ever really find himself trapped in a cubicle, he says he'll have his own clever way to waste company time. "One-of-One. It's a game you play using Google. You have to try and get (search) results (that tally) one-of-one," he explains. "If you write something completely esoteric and weird, you get zero results or you get 1,000 results but getting one-of-one is really hard to do. I once won by typing in 'effervescent triage.'"

I've received a few inquiries about the release date for the QAF Season 5 DVDs. People who pre-ordered their DVDs online from Amazon.com are reporting that they received a notice about a delay from the original release date of May 9th to June 27th. Many other online retailers, however, are still reporting the May 9th date, and a few promise to notify buyers when a date is known. TV Shows on DVD contacted Showtime to ask about the reported move of the release. Showtime said that while the move is likely, they haven't decided 100% to change it. The decision likely has to do with Showtime's move to the CBS corporation from Viacom. I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

TV Shows on DVD also reports that Queer Duck - The Movie (not the series which aired alongside QAF on Showtime) is coming to DVD, and will be in stores on July 18th.

From the Scott Walker Film Blog: "The most excellent cinema/bar, The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX, will be hosting the Beggars Group/4 A.D. record release party for The Drift [Scott's much-anticipated new album] on Monday, May 8th. If all goes according to plan, they will be screening a few extended scenes from the film along with a bunch of classic Scott/Walker Brothers video highlights." Gale Harold, as we know, is an associate producer on the film. No word on whether he will be at the release party, as he is currently busy filming his new series Vanished for the 20th Century Fox network. You can buy tickets for the 9:45 pm showing online at the Alamo website.

Peter Paige has a new message for fans at the Connection on his website. He says he's spent most of him time recently writing and auditioning, as well as preparing SAY UNCLE for market with lots of creative effort behind it. The movie is premiering in New York at the Quad Theatres on June 23rd. Peter has also joined the board of the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, which he says is "a truly amazing organization." He adds, "if you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, these people can surely put it to good use. or you could buy yourself another pair of shoes. but whatever, i won't think less of you." LOL Gotta love him.

Sharon Gless plays Deanna in the new series "Thick and Thin" on NBC. The show centers on a formerly fat woman who struggles as she grows into her new skin while surrounded by her still-overweight family and friends. Six episodes have been ordered. Details are available on the NBC media village website.

The Toronto Star has another article about Fabrizio Filippo's new series, Billable Hours, which premiered on Showcase last night. I caught the first episode and while it wasn't the greatest I've ever seen, it had some funny moments.

Robert Gant's company Mythgarden (the one he formed with Chad Allen and Chris Racster) is producing a new film called "Elliot Loves" which chronicles the coming of age of a Dominican American, both as a 9-year old boy fighting for the attention of his disillusioned mother, and as a 21-year old man who suffers a string of comically bad relationships until he makes peace with his past. They're also working with actor David Duchovny on the project "The Way Out," taking a look at the dilemma faced by many elder gay men.

Still haven't checked out the Queer As Folk jewelery collection from Love and Pride? What are you waiting for... go check out the unique pieces right now! (no, I don't get a cut, LOL, I just happen to like the stuff they're offering).

Looks like Gale's appearance in The Unit will be this coming Tuesday, April 18th, on CBS (not May 9th as previously announced). The episode is titled "Dedication" and Kim gets a job at a radio station where Rory (Gale's character) is the station manager.

Bigfoot Entertainment has revised their East Broadway site once again, adding a gallery and some production notes. Fay Ann Lee writes, "One of the major challenges I found as the writer and then the director was how to approach the role of Andrew. Being neither white nor male, I found myself writing a part that was actually far more stereotypical than I had hoped. When Gale Harold was cast as Andrew, I started to re-shape the role for him. Gale's honest delivery made Andrew a far more complex and interesting individual and, therefore, far more real. Through Gale's performance, we see that life for a rich, famous bachelor isn't perfect either--and can be, in fact, quite painful at times. As perfect as Gale may appear, he captures Andrew's flaws masterfully: his inability to find happiness within his own world and stay true to himself." Visit the East Broadway site for more information.

This is from The Deserst Sun: Steve Mason, a co-owner of Cinemas Palme d'Or in Palm Desert, expects more than 4,000 gay and straight filmgoers to attend his Reel Pride gay and lesbian film festival next week. That would mean double last year's attendance and nearly sell-out crowds throughout the four-day event, April 20-23. His confidence is due partly to the reaction of last year's "gay cowboy movie," "Brokeback Mountain." It won three Oscars after being called the most honored film ever before the Academy Awards. But mostly, says Mason, it's because gay films are suddenly being viewed as "real" movies. "I think one of the things that has happened is a lot of filmmakers who have spent years learning the craft on projects that didn't have gay themes now have the ability and latitude to do more personal gay-themed films," he said. That's the case with a number of these pictures. In the case of 'Say Uncle,' Peter Paige gained some notoriety from 'Queer As Folk' that allowed him to make this film. "The fact is, 10 years ago there was no television series that could launch a career like Peter Paige's career. So what we're seeing now is the birth of a lot of these personal projects from people who have built a profile in the last decade."

The Jam!Showbiz review of Fab Filippo's (Ethan, QAF) new series is mixed: Billable Hours, debuting tomorrow at 9:30 p.m. on Showcase, is less Boston Legal than it is The Office. Although it's less The Office than it is a clearly Canadian comedy series that tries just a little too hard to be clever. The lives of overworked and understimulated associates at a big city law firm is a rich vein to be mined, and the pickaxe here is being wielded by series creator Adam Till, who spent a year articling for the Toronto firm Goodmans LLP. Co-creator Fabrizio Filippo (Queer As Folk) stars as Sam Caponelli, who finds both friends and foils in co-workers Clark (Brandon Firla) and Robin (Jennifer Baxter), as they do battle over parking spaces, ergonomic office chairs and sexual politics. From the files of "Where are they now" comes an article from The Guardian about QAF's former music supervisor, Scot McFadyen: "Crackling down a mobile-phone line from an editing suite somewhere in Canada, Scot McFadyen sounds slightly perplexed at the turn of events his life has taken. He previously earned his living as a music supervisor for films and TV shows - he did the American version of Queer As Folk, and he also worked on a low-budget horror film called Ginger Snaps, which used lycanthropy as a metaphor for female puberty ("They don't call it the curse for nothing!" ran the tagline). Today, he finds himself in the unlikely position of becoming the world's leading heavy-metal cineaste. The first film he co-directed, wrote and produced, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, has been touring the festivals to much acclaim. The editing suite has been hired to cut another documentary, this time about the life of Dennis "Piggy" d'Amour, the late guitarist of Canadian thrash metal band Voivod. Later this year, he will embark on a third documentary, this time about metal's popularity in unlikely corners of the globe. There is, he claims, a burgeoning black-metal scene in Indonesia: apparently, they can't get enough of bands called Abettor of Satan and Deformed Tartarus in Bandung. "The thing is," McFadyen sighs, "I'm not really into heavy metal. I was into indie rock from Britain at school. But for someone who's not into heavy metal, I seem to end up making a lot of films about it." [read more]

There seems to be some confusion surrounding the airdate for Gale's guest appearance on "The Unit" on CBS. The Internet Movie Databas (IMDb) says he will appear in episode 9, titled "Unannounced," on May 9th. TV.com's episode guide has "Unannounced" as episode 10, but still airing on May 9th. The official website doesn't have an episode guide beyond what has already aired this season. As we already know, Gale is playing a radio station manager named Rory, and this week's episode (airing April 18th) is titled "Dedicated" and one of the female characters, Kim, gets a job at a radio station. So it seems we may get a glimpse of him in that episode as well, but nothing official has been announced. You can watch a preview of the next episode here.

There's a new article in the Hollywood Reporter about the 2006/07 television season pilots, which mentions two of Gale Harold's series: "The Unit" and "Vanished". Here are a couple of excerpts from the article:
Fox will come into the fall largely at the mercy of its postseason baseball coverage, which weighed down its fourth-quarter ratings. All the network can do is repeat the strategy it employed in 2005-06:
establish its entertainment programs as early in the season as it can and use baseball as a promotional base for male-friendly fare.
That strategy helped first-year standouts "Prison Break" and "Bones," which gives the network more strength to build around.
"We plan to stick with our fourth-quarter strategy again this year, but now we have a bigger stable of shows," said Preston Beckman, executive vp strategic program planning at Fox.
 That likely will mean
new dramas come in as companions for established hours Monday-Wednesday. 20th Century Fox TV probably had the sexual tension between the protagonists in "Bones" in mind when developing "Primary," which features romantically entangled hostage negotiators; the serialized suspense of "Vanished" seems in the mold of "Break."

"Because we have 'Break,' 'House' and 'Bones,' we have clear targets for our dramas," Beckman said. "Our development was informed by those shows."
A bigger challenge awaits on Thursday and Friday, when Fox will lose some of the few remaining programs it has in "That '70s Show" and "Malcolm in the Middle," which end their runs this season. With Fox struggling on an important night like Thursday, the network might have to make a big move, maybe with its most anticipated comedy pilot: "Raymond" co-star Brad Garrett in Sony's " 'Til Death." If Fox doesn't get a foothold on Thursday in the fall, the long-rumored switch of "American Idol" just might be in the offing.
The Unit:
"Idol" has been a midseason boon to Fox, but CBS also has made some fortuitous gains in 2006 that will help come fall. Early indications are that new additions "
The Unit" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine" have the ratings power to stay on the schedule next season, which means CBS may need few pilots to bolster its stable schedule.

"It's been a nice shot in the arm," Kelly Kahl, senior executive vp programming operations, said of the eye network's midseason successes. "As we continue to build this wall, it's (potentially) two more pieces."

The trailer for East Broadway is up at the Tribeca Film Festival site! Check out Gale Harold in his role as Andrew Barrington, Jr. opposite a very charming Grace (played by Fay Ann Lee). Update: The information I received about tickets being sold out was in error... there are still openings at most of the screenings.

Youtube.com seems to have fixed the glitch on their site and you can now view the clip from the Scott Walker special that aired on the BBC in the UK recently. Find it here.

Drag Ball 2006 took place Staurday night at Oberlin College in Ohio. It began eight years ago under Student Union Associate Director Chris Baymiller. This year’s judges were CDS employee Denise Capers from Stevenson, Director of the Multicultural Resource Center Director and Associate Dean of Students Eric Estes and celebrity guest judge Sharon Gless. Monk described Gless as a sort of "inter-generational superstar" actress: she is best known for her role as Chris Cagney on the 1980s TV show Cagney and Lacey and more recently as Debbie on Queer as Folk (2000). "People seem to like the celebrity judge thing,” said Monk. “It lent a little bit of glamour to the whole event." Though her fame as an actress is her most visible qualification for guest judge, Gless is also grandmother to Oberlin first-year student Hailey Laws. Though Monk gives credit where it's due to Laws for recruiting her grandmother, he still takes some personal pride: "The fact that I got Sharon Gless to come is so exciting I might actually crap my pants." Short notice, I know, but this evening Robert Gant will be one of the presenters at the 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. He will also introduce a clip of Academy Award winner Ang Lee (director of Brokeback Mountain). The event will be held at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. For ticket information, please visit the GLAAD website. The 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards airs on Logo April 15th, and VH1 April 16th. Check your local listings for airtimes.

"The Unseen" starring Gale Harold and Michelle Clunie will be screened at the Palm Beach International Film Festival on April 21st, at Muvico Parisian 20 - CityPlace, at 10:00pm.

"Better late than never for 'Queer'" is an article by Cara Slingerland for the Marquette Tribune, which talks about the groundbreaking show and some of the controversy surrounding the series. The author writes, "The show does not pander to a diverse demographic, though themes of loyalty, friendship and love are universal. The five main male characters are all gay, a lesbian couple make up two of the show's three female roles and the third female character is more politically conscious and active than all of them combined. All of the main characters are also white."

Randy Harrison (Justin, QAF) is appearing in the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Alabama Shakespere Festival (ASF), which runs April 23rd to May 21st. More details are available at the ASF website.

Patrick Antosh, Costume Designer for QAF and Kim Harkness joined fans at the 3rd annual Queer as Folk Convention in Toronto last month. Patrick and Kim gave some inside information about dressing the main cast and the extras. Patrick's video page has been updated, and a clip from the VH1 special has been added.

The April Q&A is up at scottlowell.com. Scott answers a question about Brokeback Mountain and contrasts its style and possible influence on the American public with that of QAF. Scott also has new contact information.

Harris Allan (Hunter, QAF) and his band Square9 now have a myspace account. Harris posted on his message board asking fans to check it out... one of the full songs from the group's CD is available for preview; if you visit the website you can preview and purchase the entire EP. You can request to be added if you're a fan!

Taking its cue from recent headline-grabbing sting operations targeting child molesters, ImageOut: The Rochester Lesbian & Gay Film & Video festival will present Peter Paige's provocative Say Uncle, a dark, wicked comedy about mass hysteria over pedophilia. This fundraiser event is scheduled for Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m. in Little Theatre 1 at 240 East Ave. Fresh from its stints at more than a dozen LGBT and international film festivals, the film’s exclusive screening will treat the Rochester audience months before the movie begins its limited theatrical release in June. Tickets for this one-night-only engagement are $10 in advance and $12 at the door and can be purchased online at www.imageout.org or at Outlandish Video and Gifts, 274 North Goodman St. and Pride Connection, 728 South Ave.

For those ordering the Final Season of QAF on DVD in Canada, you may have to wait an extra week. Amazon.ca has the release date listed as May 16th for Canada, one week later than the American release, which has often been the case in the past. Thanks to Drew for the heads up on this one. The US version is identifed as the Import version on Amazon.ca, from Showtime Entertainment. Note: this is the final set of DVDs that Showtime Entertainment will ever release; all further Showtime DVDs will be issued by CBS Enterprises as Showtime is now a part of CBS Corporation instead of Viacom. TLA video has announced that the Final Season is on hold due to this corporate shuffle. They expect to have word on a new delivery date soon and will post the information immediately once it is received. if you have placed an order with them, the order is safe, but will not ship in May as planned. If you order from 10percent.com, however, you can "win the shirt off Brian Kinney's back" - literally, in an exclusive contest. Prebook today and automatically be entered to win Brian's shirt, worn on Queer As Folk. For details visit the contest page.

Apparently youtube.com has clips of The Culture Show BBC2 which featured clips from the upcoming film, Scott Walker: 30 Century Man that I mentioned on March 26th. More good news... the film is one of 30 projects selected for the prestigious Toronto Documentary Forum, an invitational pitch forum for works-in-progress to find broadcast partners, additional funding, etc. It takes place during HotDocs, the Toronto Documentary Festival - pretty much the best Doc fest in the world. TDF is not open to the public, and the promo will not be shown during HotDocs. However, according to Stephen Kijak, there will be a 5 min "screening" and then presentation/meetings. "Industry only, not a public event," he says - "it would be sort of boring to watch 30 producers begging for money all day!"

From Channel Canada comes this article about Fab Filippo's new series, "Billable Hours." They’re young, they’re brilliant, and they’re punch-drunk bored. Billable Hours, a new Showcase Original series, is set in a big downtown law firm and features a group of over-educated twenty-somethings who are smart and successful, but trapped in their exhausting legal jobs. The series, comprised of eight half-hour episodes, will have its Canadian premiere on Sunday, April 16 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. This new prime-time comedy series was created by Fabrizio Filippo (Queer as Folk) and Adam Till (The Human Kazoo).

"On-set obsessions inspire Rhinoceros Eyes director" is the title of an article by Ken Eisner from straight.com. He writes, "Rhinoceros Eyes was conceived, shot, and finished so long ago, at least in movie terms (we’re talking 2003), that writer-director Aaron Woodley can’t really be blamed for forgetting some things about his first feature. The atmospherically quirky film, which made the festival circuit the next year, is finally seeing the theatrical light of day across the country, starting Friday (March 31)." There are a few quotes from Aaron in the article. "The first screening we had here in town on this go-round," he says on the phone from his Toronto home, "there were 800 people at the Varsity Theatre. It went really well. But afterwards, the questions came and I was completely unprepared. Fortunately, I’m now starting to remember what it was all about." The first-time feature maker, who previously gained attention for his experimental shorts, points to the obsessions of film people as his inspiration. "On-set, everyone thinks an entire film is about their department, and they lose perspective. It can actually get quite ridiculous. A director has to be there to keep these talents focused and at bay." read the review.
