How to pick the best one

This is the place where I can give you little help when picking the best hamster.

1.The best place to get a hamster is probably Petsmart or a well cleaned place that takes good care of their animals that they sell. I personaly don't like getting animals at PetStores, so I would go to shelters. No shelters around my part have any hamsters, but yours might, so always check =) So make sure, wherever you get your hamster, it is very well cleaned and the animals have water and food and clean bedding.

2.When you find the type of hamster that you want (syrian, dwarf, syrian teddy,exc..) try to find the most active one of them all. (ex. the only one up running around or the one doing most of the running)

3.Make sure that the one you pick has a glossy or shiny coat, a clean behind, beady eyes, and a nice tummy..make sure the one you pick isn't really skinny because that means the hamster could be sick and not live the expected life span.I once had a hamster named Gizmo, and he only lived for about half a day.I got him and put him in his cage and fed him and exc.. and when I woke up the next morning he was dead.I was so little what I got him and when he died I was devistated..I didn't even have a chance to name him when he was alive.. So you must make sure your hamster is healthy!

4.Ask the person thats helping you purchase your hamster if you can hold the one you want. Make sure it doesn't bite you every 5 seconds..most new hamsters will bite you at first and until they get use to you so don't be strict on your new pet right away, just make sure you know that hamster is right for you. How will you know if it's the right one??? Trust me..You'll know.

And if you're just looking for a calm gentle hammy for a child or even yourself, a black bear would be the best choice. They are bred to be gentle unlike other hammies who can bite at times. Black bears are black with white on their chest I believe, I have never had one (Only short and long syrians {regular and teddy} for me so far) But I think I'll get one the next time I get a hamster. If you do get a black bear, you MUST make sure that it still follows the health guides, because ALL hamsters can get sick.
