Bob's Journey

We got a call
from a woman that was feeding a small feral colony. She reported
that one of the cats looked to be seriously injured, even perhaps
shot, and she needed help. She said he was one of the regular
cats in the colony, and he had a gaping hole in the back of his
head and his eye seemed to be gone.
It took 6 nights for volunteers to trap who would
soon be known as Bobby. Upon trapping, he was immediately
transported to the vet. The veterinarian had found that he had
not been shot, but had dug a whole in the back of his head
because of a severe ear infection and an ear mite infestation.
His eye was also infected and had swollen shut. Bobby was born
with a defect that caused his eyelids to turn in. The birth
defect caused infections and ulcers in the eye. The infected eye,
along with the whole in the back of the head really did make it
seem like he had been shot through his eye.

The first step
was to name this recently rescued cat. I named him Bobby. As for
all cats, Bobby was immediately tested for Feline Leukemia and
Aids. Unfortunately, Bobby tested positive for Leukemia. The vets
thought him in good enough shape to undergo surgery. His eye was
repaired, he was neutered, and was given a very thorough cleaning
of the infection in his ear and the hole on the back of his head.

Bobby spent about 1 1/2 months in the hospital. He
became a favorite of the staff, being a sweet and lovable boy. He
had a number of visitors that he was always glad to see for a
roll in catnip, and special treats. Upon entering the vet clinic,
Bobby had a stench that made it difficult to be around him for
extended periods of time. It was also thought that Bobby was a
brown cat. During his stay in the hospital, and after being
neutered, Bobby soon lost his stench. Bobby was first thought to
be a brown cat, but after recouping, along with a little cleaning
up, and a good diet for his coat, Bobby was actually a beautiful
silver tabby.
