Home > Resources > Mission Statement

Brooklyn Tech was instituted by a New York State legislative
mandate and is open to all students of the City of New York by
competitive examination. Its mission is to inspire and challenge
potentially high achievers to maximize their talents for the benefit of
society.

The goals of Brooklyn Tech are:
• to provide an environment for educational, social and
emotional growth in which students with superior scholastic
aptitudes can develop their intellectual gifts and become
committed to an examination of ethical approaches to solve
world problems.
• to provide an environment for the research and development of
innovative interdisciplinary approaches in the areas of
mathematics, science, engineering, computer science and the
liberal arts.
• to attract and challenge outstanding educators to guide
students in achieving the highest standard of academic
excellence.
• to prepare our students for leadership and professional roles at
the university level and in our society, with an awareness of
social responsibility to the community.

In 1998, as part of school redesign efforts with CARETECH
(Committee to Access and Revise Education at Tech), the following
goals were adopted by the faculty:
• to identify the needs of Tech students for the 21st century.
• to facilitate a redefinition of the Tech instructional
environment and curriculum to match the identified needs.
• to facilitate the preparation of the faculty to teach the new
materials in appropriate ways.
• to build partnerships with colleges, universities, government
agencies, professional societies and industry.
• to coordinate the gathering of resources necessary for
curriculum development, staff development and facilities
modification.
• to serve as a demonstration site and resource for other high
schools.
