Surprised at Proposed Position

Published/Last Modified on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 4:22 PM CST

I am a resident of the Campbell-Tintah School District and would like to respond to comments made in the Daily News by the interim superintendent of the Breckenridge School District.

Campbell-Tintah is located in southern Wilkin County. My wife and I both graduated from this district. We have three children, one who has already graduated and two more who will graduate from this district. I was surprised to read in the Sunday, Jan. 18 paper that the Breckenridge superintendent has told his board repeatedly that they should consider a county wide superintendent position.

I was surprised, No. 1, because the Campbell-Tintah District just passed a substantial referendum recently. The referendum will take the district into the future.

I was surprised, No. 2, because Campbell-Tintah and Breckenridge have a great history of working together. We share many services that benefit both districts and hope to continue these. In the past these things have been mutually agreed on by the two district boards.

Finally, I was shocked because I am on the Campbell-Tintah board and this was the first I had heard of a county wide position and I do not feel that negotiations should occur through the paper. Maybe the three districts in the county could have these discussions. At this time, Campbell-Tintah is very happy with its current administrations.

I was also shocked to note that Mr. Schmidt felt the responsibility to notify both the Rothsay District and Campbell-Tintah District as to the status of their administration. I am confident both administrators are responsible enough to let their districts know of their personal decisions. Whether or not either of the two administrators pursue other job opportunities, it will up to them to let their districts know.

Campbell-Tintah has a great working relationship with Breckenridge, sharing several services and sports but not in administration. We wish to continue this strong connection but are a viable working district at this time thanks to the efforts of our communities and district patrons.

Sincerely, RANDY RITTENOUR
